The thing with Mailata is that he needs to play more than anyone else on the roster. It’s the only way to unlock his potential. And let’s be real — Mailata has the highest upside of any OL on the roster. He’s THAT physically gifted.

It would be a serious mistake to bench him unless he is clearly outplayed by everyone else. We are in a rebuilding year. There is never going to be a more opportune time to allow this kid to develop on the field.

This is exactly what I think.  You just can't replicate game experience in practice.  Clearly, he wasn't practicing well last summer but once he got in to games things changed.  Again, he's no where near perfect but boy the potential.  You don't sit on that just to justify your 2019 1st round pick.

If you don't get excited about the thought of Mailata and Dickerson on the left side then I don't know what to tell ya.

The problem in 2016 was the rebuild wasn't sustainable, they gave up a lot of draft capital for Wentz, they were actually built by the 2012-2013 drafts and a great free agent haul.

This time hopefully they'll stay the course, have two more premier drafts and go shopping in 2023 to put the roof on the building, not build the walls.

Depends what you consider better.

Dude who catches 75 balls in 16 games or the better route runner, better hands who plays 4 games in 16 games cause he's 160lbs and gets hurt.

You've seen the future with clarity and certainty.  Since I know you like to bet here is one for you:

Gainwell receptions for 2021 over/under:  60

I'll take the under you take the over.

Stakes: loser can't post on this site for a calendar year.

I would think this is an easy "Yes" for you.

As far as I'm concerned, Epps, Ford, Jacquet, and James are all the same player who just changes jerseys.

I think Jacquet has potential. Patience is required.

They picked a Franchise QB(we dont have one of those

They had great cap space(it's currently awful)

They had a young team(we're old as F currently)

But sure man, 2021 is EXACTLY like 2016.

Hash tag 5 wins in 2021.

Yup that 2017 team had some young upcoming talent and some vets that had career years

And cap space to sign guys and trade for contracts

This current team will be lucky if they have enough cap space to sign their rookies and as far as young proven talent? Goedert, miles Sanders, Mailata maybe???

On defense zero young above average proven talent.

Cox graham slay are all ancient and in decline.

Everybody else in D is unproven.

One could make a case for hargrave or barnett but barnett has been mediocre and hargrave isn't a spring chick either and struggled last year.

Unless howie traded Ertz for a couple starters and finds about 5 Patrick robinsons with what's left of the FA they're not rebuilding in. 12 months

Gainwell being a good 3rd down back allows us to also use Sanders more as a runner. He should get more carries (but not necessarily more touches)

Agreed. His pass catching was less than satisfactory last year.

McNeil Vs. Williams.

Frankly I’d rather have Williams. Pass rushing 3 technique > run stuffing NT.

I like jacquett a lot but I’m not sure he’s a starter even if you develop him. I think he’s likely a competent backup which is fine with how you found him. I think the bigger picture is if you are wanting to compete in the playoffs in 2023 (that is your end game) then you likely need 2 starting outside corners and a slot corner at that point. i don’t see slay at 32 being the answer in 2023 (mainly cause i see a decline by then and he began leaving games early/missing games last year) nor maddox being the guy in the slot after he’s regressed each of the last two years and is injury prone. So it’s imperative next offseason and the following they are going to need to find those guys and make sure McPhearson becomes part of that solution.

He wont have the time, space and windows that he did in Alabama. He will take more hard hits in week 1 of the NFL then he did the last 2 years at Alabama Combined.

I agree its not 1981. But It's not Alabama where your surrounded by 10 first round picks and have huge windows.

You've been accustomed to watching pederson plodding offense that creates zero separation, most teams around the league WRs are running wide open all game.

I disagree that he'll take more hard hits week 1 than 2 years at alabama, there are a lot of sloppy tacklers at CB in the league and more and more teams are going with smaller safeties as well and the rules protect receivers before during and after catches.

Pinkston played in a weaker college conference than Smith as did Glew and both played in an era where the rules didn't favor receivers so much and actual tackling was allowed and again neither ever suffered an injury from contact.

So why would smith in a league with less defense and more rules that favor and protect players be at any more risk of injury from contact than those two???

I like jacquet as well, he has requisite length and speed to be an outside corner he just lacks the awareness and technique, he's raw and Corner is a really difficult position to play but if he could develop that would be great, I'd say the odds of him developing into more than a 4th 5th corner are slim.

Thats what you get for thinking

I dont trust this General manager to play the most talented

I dont trust this QB(either of them) to be good enough to get anyone 60 catches

I dont trust this new coach and OL to call the plays.

My point was and is... I dont think Smith will be a better catcher because of his size.

SO I turn the bet on you. *IF* Will Devonta Smith miss a game this year. I'll take the over. You take the under. Loser cant post for a year. Should be an EASY BET for you

Let's do a trifecta since you backed out immediately as I knew your soft brashness would.

Mine on Gainesville

Yours on Smith

Eagles wins: you 5; me 6.

Gotta win all three - loser leaves board until Eagles win another Super Bowl.

I think what rubs many the wrong way with Roseman is his hubris. Instead of saying (I paraphrase), "Hey, everyone said it would take 5 years to rebuild and I did it it in one," he should have said, "Things did not go as planned over the last three years. As the GM, I take responsibility for that. We think we have turned the corner with the last draft. I look forward to see how our young staff and players develop next season."

What would you call a 5 win team in cap trouble, not having a franchise QB and rookie coaches who get off on RPS

There’s a difference between not liking where we are but seeing a lot of light not far ahead vs  taking an Eeyore approach to everything.

yes, this team - and Howie specifically -  crapped the bed in many ways. But I happen to like a lot of the fixes we’ve seen this off-season. It is possible to play the middle - have some things you don’t like and some things you do.

id call sitting on either side - all positive or all negative - equally disingenuous.

Why should he take responsibility?   "It was the one-armed man!"  (or in this case, Doug and Schwartz)

What? lol?

Because I said I think Smith is going to get hurt because of his size. LOL the Reason why he was the 3rd WR picked lol

You said Gainwell would have 75 receptions over 16 games AND Smith would get injured.

Here's how our picks lined up by number overall compared to player ranking according to this site that someone here posted the other day. I know that this really means absolutely nothing.

https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/big-boards/2021/consensus-big-board-2021

Player -- our pick # -- website rank

Smith -- 10 -- 8

Dickerson -- 37 -- 37

M. Williams -- 73 -- 87

McPhearson -- 123 -- 341 (yikes!)

Gainwell -- 150 -- 92

Tuipulotu -- 189 -- 115

T. Jackson -- 191 -- 216

Stevens -- 224 -- 144
