I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Sure I’d like to have another corner or two, but there’s time left in the offseason to add them, and I’m perfectly willing to see what Gannon has planned before I decide to incessantly complain about CB.

Im thinking of the wrong Melifonwu. I completely forgot about this kid. He just seamed to disappear just like Josh Jones from the Packers

The guy is 6-4 224.  He's bigger than Davion Taylor and they are putting him back at CB where he has shown nothing.  If anything, put him at safety or he's the kind of athlete you try as a hybrid linebacker/safety.

I know it's rookie camp and he's just here on a tryout basis but I really don't know what their plan is at CB.

At this point I got Zech at outside corner and Maddox at slot.

Well, color me unimpressed with Melifonwu being a safety or a CB...

That's what I'm thinking too, even though McPherson is probably going to be a better slot CB in the NFL in the long run.  Again, not trying to be negative, I just have no idea what they are thinking with their d-backs.  In almost every round, the top 3 players available included some sort of defensive back and they continue to ignore the position.  I hope they have a plan.

Yeah Hurts beat Tayson Hill meanwhile Nick Foles beat the juggernaut **Tom Brady

FYP - and I think Nick Foles stinks.

How many guys who can't play safety are better at corner, especially at that size?  I love the thought of a freak athlete of that size getting a chance but CB makes no sense for him.

Someone please tell me when he joined the Eagles

He's in town for a try out, I believe.

A lot. Safety requires a higher football IQ than CB, CB is more of an "athlete" position, which is why a lot of big CBs can't transition to safety.

Whose top three players? Maybe yours off the media feed, but if they were staying true to their draft board, obviously not to them.

None, that’s why he’s not signed and just a rookie minicamp try out despite being in the league for 5 years. He’s not a good football player.

Yeah, fans are too wrapped up in generic big boards instead of thinking about a board built around the Eagles’ philosophy and scheme.

It might be frustrating for us, but the fact of the matter is we have no idea what Gannon wants to do schematically. It’s all a guess.

Well, that's the big 'if' now, isn't it?  Especially as there were reports that they went off their board to select JJAW, off the board to select Reagor and off the board to select Hurts.   But, that sort of thing would never happen now that Doug is gone, I'm sure.

It’s funny that we’re here on a Friday night arguing/debating about a tryout player.

You can't be soft and bad instincts at safety. It's much easier to get away from those two traits at CB as long as you can move.

Seriously. He wasn’t even in the league last year. For all we know this could just be Howie throwing his agent a bone.

False

What part?

I don't really see CB as an athlete position.

Sure, a CB who runs a 4.55 is going to have issues.  And 4.30 speed helps, situationally, for that make up speed when they are beat with the ball in the air.  If that comes in handy too often, however, you've got bigger problems.

It's sort of a contradiction; I view WR as an athlete position where the 40 time matters.  They are covered by CB's, which I do not really see as an athlete position.  A CB with fluidity...great hips and no wasted steps...stands a better chance of using the proper cushion, turning, and running with a 4.2 uncoverable WR than a track star CB who bites and is going in the wrong direction.

If a CB is fast enough, has a knack for coverage, and masters all the little things (just the right amount of hand usage, knowing how to use a cushion, press, finding the football etc)...that CB is the one who is going to be most successful in coverage.

What good CBs aren't good athletes?

OR McCORKLE JONES!!!!

I’m all for saying that a 6’ qb with an average arm can end up in the HOF...but they need to be incredibly advanced, sophisticated, and smooth as a passer...the Mac Jones (prospect)/Kurt Warner/ Brees.

Hurts has the unique distinction of being a raw single read passer AND being a short middling arm talent.

Which is why I continue to ask...what the heck does anyone actually expect here?

Vast improvement with a better QB coach

A sturdy running QB who hopefully can learn to use that ability in a more efficient manner to manipulate D’s, hopefully that comes down to more than natural instinct. I can see him rushing for >600 if he plays the entire season and I know much to your chagrin

As a passer better if he was 3-4” taller but the shorter frame is to his advantage as a running QB

Otherwise just a placeholder this year and look to the draft next year or wait for ARod to be a FA in a year or 2
