Close...they are practicing their craft in the US, not in Canada.

Which is part of the issue with their ability to pay back their loans for med school, especially if they're going to American schools. Just like any other profession, if you're able to pay more, you're going to get more qualified candidates for the role. I had a co-worker test positive for COVID a few months ago who lived in Canada and had to come down to Vermont for treatment because the wait time was ridiculously long. She needed hospital care and probably would have died if she stayed up in Canada and waited.

The single-payer system may sound feasible in theory morally but it would be a disaster here with a population ten times that of Canada.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

The area where republicans and democrats are both highly hypocritical is the intersection of economy, immigration, and social welfare.  Here we are talking about medicare for all, so that applies here.

Republicans want to build a wall.  For the purest capitalism to flourish, you need to throw the door open and invite the best and brightest from around the planet to pour in and compete.  And...sometimes not the best and brightest, but at least the hardest working to do the jobs many others refuse to do.  That's precisely the capitalist engine that built this country.

Democrats want to throw the doors open...and then create a robust socialized network for everyone.  The US cannot afford to finance the social welfare of Central America et al.  You want medicare for all, higher taxes on the rich, uniform standards in public schools across all districts, condemn income disparity.....you better build a wall.

How many other countries on the planet even have the same order of magnitude population as ours?  Of those, how many are either completely fabricating numbers or have no ability to test half their population?

But the graph was a comparison of US vs EU no 3rd world involved, pretty much apples to apples.  Europe the population density even higher so more favorable to the spread of the virus

Not sure where your coworker was but all major cities in Canada had plenty of capacity in hospitals for covid treatment since the start. They weren’t admitting everyone into hospital that tested positive, only ones that needed treatment. But I haven’t heard of anybody here who had serious symptoms and wasn’t able to get immediate treatment.

uh huh, there are many arguments, you (everyone) just picks the one that fits their political narrative. Misinformation also abounds.

Here is my view

Trump never manned up ( does he ever ??? ) more afraid of the effect on the economy and the reflection on his presidency. I don’t and can’t blame him for the virus but I do hold him accountable ( is there such thing anymore ? ) for being very unprepared and for the very reluctant, half hearted and late response. Sorry, he seems like a petulant child but that’s to me you may hold him in higher esteem

Do you see where I’m coming from ?

I agree with this, but you still just get multiple opinions you still have to decide which one you believe and quite honestly they all suck. We're again faced with horrible candidates for President.

Who would be some of your preferred candidates, just a few and on each side ? I definitely don’t disagree with you on the quality of our choice

hmmm the argument of intent.... thats not an acceptable argument to make against Kaepernick kneeling and intentionally or not insulting veterans and disrespecting the flag though.

Insult is in the eyes of the beholder

Liberty and justice for all, that flag ?

Where will they go when the US voters realize they been misled and lied to regarding socialized medicine ?

I am sure government funding of a majority of their education if not all of would be included in any move towards a system for complete socialized medicine. Remember our healthcare costs 18% of GDP while the other industrialized nations it’s in the 12% range. Healthcare is basically a tax

It's really exciting, he's going to be a stud.  The downer in me says we only have 3 more years of him because if he keeps it up he's going to want a huge salary the Eagles likely won't pay for a running back.

It is exciting and if he continues he will want huge money.  He'll deserve it as well.  Maybe he's our Peterson, a guy who is truly productive throughout his twenties.  But I will simply enjoy what we get.  He has me excited the way Wilbert Montgomery had me juiced all those years ago.  Jaws and McNabb would both attest to how they were helped by Montgomery and Westbrook.

Why do folks struggle with where I'm coming from? What do you think I mean by both sides? Do you think it means I don't see the faults of Trump?

That's not my responsibility to come up with candidates. But I certainly liked Ben Carson, there are probably a million people I would vote for above the two clowns that are in this race. Crazy Trump and Old Senile Biden..........................Seriously?

Maybe I'm nuts but to me "building a wall" is to keep out illegals, not everyone. At least in my book if you want to come here and go through the effort to become a productive citizen, and you don't have a criminal or terrorist background, you are welcome here no matter what country you are from.

That's always been how I viewed it.

My sentiments exactly on Carson. Back to the drawing board, in 4 yrs there will be new candidates hopefully not the same ol’ lesser of 2 evils at least I hope for both of us

You tend to give him a pass or maybe faults is an understatement

ESPN proposes trade between Eagles and Seahawks

ESPN recently came up with five player trades "that help both teams” and the Philadelphia Eagles made the cut. Here’s their proposal ...

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES RECEIVE: Offensive lineman Ethan Pocic

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS RECEIVE: Cornerback Sidney Jones

Ok, this looks like a pretty fair analysis hitting on the usual suspects

https://khn.org/news/canadas-single-payer-health-system-what-is-true-what-is-false/

That's not fair at all.  The are specifically referring only to primary care doctors and their practices.  And they do, at least, acknowledge that specialty care is an issue there.

If we want our health care system to be focused on primary care only, then their healthcare system IS an ideal.  Wait times are good, (primary care) docs are very happy and competitively paid, level of care is uniformly excellent.

If we want to talk specialty care, wait times are exorbitant, people are crossing the border, docs are crossing the border, and the quality is higher in the states.

You could certainly create the argument that our country's focus on specialty care has not gotten us anywhere.  Our overall system spends a massive amount of money on heroic end of life interventions and underinvests in preventative medicine.  So perhaps the rest of the world's focus is more important.  That's a fair argument.

But if you turn your body into a crushed bug after a motorcycle wreck, want your 4th surgery to carefully take out cancer in your body, or want a diligent ICU team to fight for you after your 2nd week on a ventilator for COVID, there's only one country in the world where you will be kept alive.

So if you want socialized medicine, we need to have a national discussion about giving up these things.  And believe me...Americans want those aforementioned things.

Just now, HazletonEagle said:

Does Pocic suck? If not,  that's not a fair trade.  Seattle doesn't want bumb CBs.

Pocic has plenty of positional versatility (he has played both guard spots, center and right tackle) and was on track to a promising career as a rookie. Injuries derailed his 2019 season, and he has played in just 30 of 48 career games. But this would be a bet for Philly on the ability to develop him, the chance to pad depth at multiple spots and the reality that finding replacements in mid-June is not easy to accomplish

Not sure about Pocic, but I just don't think Howie would make this move.
