I mean. You try to win.  You don't avoid getting Cooper because then you have to pay Dak.   You just don't act like an @zz●le and pay the guy early on a more team friendly deal.

You want 2 more  years to " audition"  dude got hurt... then you pay him anyway?   Just pay him early and in a better way for the team.   You can get out of those deals when done right.

Look at the disaster with Demarco Murray and that CB from Miami that was a disaster.. we got out of those deals after a year, with minimum damage.  A few million in dead money is way better than overpaying a guy by twice that.

The Hurts situation is almost identical to Dak in his 3rd year.

1 add the WR and boom

2.  Was a perceived " prove it year

3. Players like them " intangibles "

4. Non 1st round picks where year 4 is barely over league minimum salary and final year of deal.

Watch how differently things will be handled.

The Dallas method was paying everyone else that offseason and keeping Dak cheap. They were forced to tag him the year after.  Huge cap hit.   Then he got overpaid due to him having the leverage of the rules with getting tagged 2 years in a row.

So cheap year 4... expensive year 5.. then overpay year 6... watch the cap hits the next 2 years.

Eagles paying Hurts after this year,  still cheap year 4, way cheaper than tag cap hit year 5, and in position to redo the deal or get out year 6.   Cap hits will remain low... in fact,  I'll wager Parsons has bigger cap hits in at least 2 of the seasons if not more.

And if you say it's " philosophy " that a defensive player has a bigger cap hit than a top paid QB.... then we absolutely disagree. It's poorly written contracts and bad cap management.

Never a sure thing buying a FA and hoping your leg work was correct and he fits

So why do you need to buy FA's if you "promote from within"? Because guys get greedy and want you to over pay to stay on the team where they found success, so out they go, and you look for guys that want paid that teams refuse to pay(see AJ). So this is a constant battle. If I'm making 15 million a year and I am happy where I am, like my team mates, coaches, and my house I would re-sign for that same amount and keep playing. I wouldn't care that you made more than me at the same spot, but most would. Greed begets greed. I could live my whole life on what they make in a year. Then greed hits the franchises. Now they have to pay out more salary,to stay competitive with other money hungry greedy teams and it keeps escalating. Ticket, jersey prices all go up to pay for it. If they really wanted to have an effect they would LOWER the cap,but we know that will never happen, always UP UP UP. Sign an 11 year contract with Amazon to take games away from the masses of blue collar people who can't afford to pay for what was once free and who could have a little break at weeks end. But no,they don't give a rats butt about anyone. So guys come, guys go,some cheap, some not. Market sets the prices, the agents tack on their take and they put you in the showroom window on display for as many greedy teams as possible. So "promoting from within" becomes difficult after the first non rookie contract. Only way to flush that out is to lower the cap a few years in a row, then maybe keep it the same a year, then these greedy prima donnas would have to work for a LITTLE less,or be unemployed and restore some sanity to these ridiculous salaries. And don't tell me about "they need to keep up with inflation" At 15-30 million(or pick your number) I doubt you feel the impact if bread goes up 11 cents. Even rookie pay is much more than a living wage. There are some that will do what I suggest, take a fair offer from the team to stay with a little loyalty raise, then there are those that blow up that entire concept with greed. I'm old and remember when player laid for 300.00 a game(QB got 400) and every got that same pay. Then the NFL was formed and the greedy **** knew they had a goldmine. So from now on with "league parity" the new rule, teams will pay more for ANY slight edge a player can offer them. Really pathetic

Seems like the answer to your question about Hurts is last year with our team.

We will always differ on this point here. We played 3rd string guys/beat up teams/key players missing last year, there was no need for anyone to carry anyone. We played mostly a season of(as you put it) Appalachian st teams. Would be very difficult to fail. Thats why your slobbering all over Hurts didn't mean much to me then and WHY I wanted him to prove he was good at beating NON trash teams) because beating the team we did LAST year did NOT impress me in the least,so we will always differ on this point(because deny it or not MY BAR was HIGHER). This years schedule is not all that much harder than last, but at least we're facing teams at pretty much full strength, not QB's they found in the parking lot. SO Hurts has been quite fortunate to have this "slo motion" learning process. It's not like he was tossed into the fire day 1 and had to play KC and Buffalo every other week. He has progressed nicely which is precisely what I wanted to see. Looking forward to seeing how he handles Dullaz and of course his first play off game where it's win or go home. So those 2 things are my next 2 hurdles I have set for him. This year he has jumped my previous hurdles and I expect him to jump these also. I believe doing so will be required for that big contract. I see no reason he can't achieve these. I had no idea what to expect at the the start of the season despite your flag waving, I needed to see it myself. And he has done that(but I'm a hater with a high bar). Still many thing he can improve on and I suspect he will. I want him backed into a game day corner, where a loss sends him home for the year and see how he handles it. So far he has been cool and in control which is nice to see. has a short memory which is good also. So as this year progresses,I am seeing some of things I wanted to see and there are a few more because my bar is higher. I'm totally sure the FO doesn't care about either of our opinions and that's a good thing lol. Now SQUASH them GNATS

But how a guy does on a bad team isn’t really relevant

Disagree. If you could have Pitts for rookie salary would you take him? Finding those disgruntled players is the BEST way to load up your team cheaply(see AJ?????) Tenn refused to pay him,so he was a good player on a mediocre team and we took advantage of it. If we didn't have Hurts, would you take Trevor Lawrence on rook pay? All promising players on bad teams,so we will disagree on this also

I didn’t really know this info. So thanks for educating me. But 9 years for a little weed is clearly just punishing America. Crazy penalty. Laws are different all over the world I do realize. But gotta feel she was being a very public example. Felt we had to do something. Perception is huge…like it or not. If we let them just get away with that with the whole world watching….it has an effect.

IDK what their laws are, maybe it's 9 years for that offense? We are "WOKE" Russia is not and they will take advantage of stupidity wherever they can. Of course she was a public example. Russia put pressure on our "woke" society("felt like we had to do something") to bring her home(because of who she represents). Our leadership is weak, bent to the pressure and made a lopsided deal in Russias favor. I'm sure they are having a terrific laugh over top notch vodka on this one at how gullible and stupid the US has become.I dated a Ukrainian awhile. Like Russia their "nights out" are symphony orchestral concerts and live theater or ballet. Things we lost long ago. Movies are rare and screened by the govt. So now suddenly we are "working with Russia?" so I expect a whole slew of BS to come from that also. The 2nd best arms dealer in the world, for a law breaking WNBA player is a terrific bargain(for them). I'm sure he will be at work by Monday getting them more weaponry to use against Ukraine. We still have ALOT of Americans (military and civilian) left/stranded/hiding in Afghanistan? Why does noone care about them? ok off politics

Now....  I will say...I think they look to prioritize keeping Edwards, Epps and CGJ.  The age of the players follows the trend of the players entering their prime.

DB ages- 31,29,24. I would like to retain all 3 this next year year(depending on cost) if I can. Still draft some prospects,Blankenship looks like a keeper, If we did this we could really concentrate on making these lines younger(DT DE ROT). RB doesn't concern me either way. Make an offer, take it or leave it (and I am a nut for offense) If no go plenty out there as long as you have the O line. WR room is fine (and we haven't been able to say that for quite awhile) LB's can be resigned or had in FA,but IMO it will be difficult to replace the 3 DB's we have. We need to get started, but would sign them all to 2 years while we do. By then ages 33,31,26 and you could maybe retain 2 of those another year or so

GB, get it out my man...it's good therapy...lol.

The cap thing though.   How it works is in the CBA they negotiated the % of revenue the players get.  Divide by 32 and that is your cap.    Can’t really lower the cap unless they decrease revenue.

So it's the league making money first and the players salary going up with it.  I'm sure your favorite deal with Amazon is helping keep that cap up.

https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/roster/marvin-harrison-jr/   IDK when this kid declares, but I would love to have him(if we have room) He gets a good test his last game against the #1 CB ranked in the next draft- Ringo(Georgia) BIG WR and born in Philly,so a homer as well. I hope he stays in school long enough until we need him HAHAHA Love Quez, but he could replace him in a second

Now flip that cap stuff to the Eagles.    Im trying to think the last player we lost that was any good.... in which they didn't sign their 2nd contract to play here?

Who was the last 4 year vet to walk due to money???    I'm drawing a blank?

Trey Burton?

So much BS in the world I have to bleed some off to remain sane(if I am)

No,he was a casualty when we changed from the 34 to 43 maybe I am confused(old now) Burton was the TE? if not then thats who I was thinking of

That was Bennie Logan. Was there someone else?

Beau Allen left after the Superbowl

Burton was the TE,it wasn't Logan. He was a DE I believe that didn't fit into the new D system(or maybe we just let him go can't remember)

Burton was the TE who threw the Philly special and got $7 or $8 mil per year from da Bears...lol

A 3/4 OLB type that we let go?

Now I'm screwed all day until I remember his name lol. I think it was the year before we drafted barnett

You thinking Vinny Curry?

Was it a Chip guy?

Just now, joemas6 said:

No not Curry. He was here a few years, then we changed the D and he wasn't suited for it. IDK if we traded him or let him walk

The fact that you can't remember pretty much reinforces my point... we really haven't lost a draft and develop guy because of money in a while.

Was it the guy who was on the 3 man line with Cox and Logan?

Cedric Thorton ...or Conner Barwin?
