It just feels very True Crime-y and a lot of podcasts dwelling in that stuff have worked to gain traction on these things over the last few years, specifically Up and Vanished with Payne Lindsey. Already going through that Reddit thread on this episode you see all the posts from people saying "oh yeah its this Family who runs that small town," with people saying they more or less have admitted to it over the years.
