And you know why I am optimistic about THIS YEAR!

1.  This is a huge one... I do NOT think the 2023 Eagles were equipped to fix anything in 2023.  Those problems were not fixable last year.   The DTs were shot after the Buffalo game.  Reddick was worried about his personal stats.  Byard came in and messed everything up.   AJ got hurt, it was done.

2.  I personally believe the first step of fixing anything, is identifying the issues.   The issues I saw... roster wise.   

Running game, had no Bell cow or a 3rd member of the committee.  They weren't equipped to run the ball 40 times if needed.  They addressed that.    The slot WR was a non fit, you need that guy that can get open in a phone booth, short yardage.  That plays to the QB's strength!      

Defense, LBs were all over the place... we basically signed the Reddick of Tampa, except he wanted to come here all along, not hold out like Reddick.  We added a draft pick and a specific free gent that the DC wanted.   Now Dean will have to work for it, instead of being handed the job.  In the secondary we got younger and more physical.  Plus much added depth that was missing.     The biggest thing... a DC that won't play 12 yards off on 3rd and 8.

So... when you identify and address the specifics.  Do so in a way that you also called out the young players that you need to step up.... The QB and the MLB as prime examples.   

Plus the schedule is much easier as far as logistics.. and stacked opponents with extra rest...etc.

Again, all mistakes that he can learn from... because with those intangibles and work ethic... he should realize it was his fault and put the work in to get better.  If one truly believes this, then he should be confident about this year.

I would be nervous if the QB and those around him seemed to think he did nothing wrong.  So far doesn't seem the case.  Especially when talking about how more vocal Hurts has been... admitting it was a problem last year.

Your QB is the most important player on the team... doesn't have to be the best, but he is the most important, the player the game revolves around... it seems the organization no longer has it's head up it's collective ass and realizes the QB needed to fix things.  Remain authentic, but still alter some things.    It was a problem for the hunter from North Dakota, zero self awareness... it seems the organization has learned from it, and communicated this with the current QB.   

Again, when you can admit problems, that's the first step to fixing them.

In reading a D let’s not be so massively low utilizing motion to help out the read. We were just so massively far behind the whole rest of the league using motion. Got to make sure the playcalls get in soon enough to get to the line to make reads.

You always are caught up in the past determining the future. Not the way things always work. He proved he can win the SB. Running the ball WAS a part of that. Just got to embrace the dual threat he is. Not going to get anywhere trying to force him to try and be Tom Brady. He’s not. He’s Jalen Hurts. That’s good enough. Let him be the best version of himself.

My issue... can this QB play NFL QB as the passer... the full time passer who can just use the running as a tool, not as the basis of his play.   If so, then we are in great shape.

I don't see any reason other than if the QB fails to do this... and obvious injury... that our offense shouldn't be elite level.  

 

Hurts has lead our O to be elite for two straight seasons. More goes into it than just player talents though. You’re missing the other very key ingredients. The team never gelled last season.  Looked steps behind coming out of TC. Can’t substitute for quality coaching. Hurts was MVP leader past the halfway point in the season. That’s with overcoming the coaching deficiencies. 
 We aren’t the best most talented team. But we need Hurts to be much better than 11th best QB to really succeed.

How did AJ get hurt? Did we actually dox that problem? No we didn’t. Still the same HC that made the bone headed decision that got AJ and Hurts injured in that final meaningless game…that our team wasn’t ready to play in anyway. Siri still HC. Be better options next offseason for our HC job was the decision that Rosie made. I want the Texans OC. Get the Shannahan taught O mind. Then we can really be something special.

Tried to discuss the Jets game. But nobody was interested. Real late for you to try to bring it up now. Think that was a pretty key game. But can you really blame Hurts but so much for that bad interception at the end? Obviously you do. I’m just much more realistic. It was a bad play by Hurts. But very understandable under the circumstances.

I don’t think we should work so hard to make Hurts somebody he isn’t. He deferred to the HoF vets on the team to be more vocal leaders. He isn’t the talker like BG is. He’s more a lead by example personality. Let him be him.

Admitting problems would begin with the FO and Rosie. Would look at the coaching…which they did improve on. You call Hurts over the middle his weakness. But it was more scheme and lack of him having a Slot option. Still don’t have that third capable receiver. But they can move Smitty and AJ inside some. If AJ plays the Slot do you think Hurts will throw over the middle more? If AJ runs crossing patterns…do you think Hurts will  throw over the middle more? What factor was having Quez then OZ as the middle receiver?

We really could use another outside receiver option. Right now it’s up to Ngata or Wilson to step up. Maybe they can do it. As things look right now..they have to.

That’s him escaping the pressure and buying time for the deep ball to be there. But you gotta have the WR also…Quez wasn’t working that’s for sure.

Why, when AJ and Smith are not injured? How do you know they stepped up until that time comes? As I said Ainais can play out in a pinch and I suspect we hang on to Covey,so it's not like the cupboard is bare. A bit thin,but not a disaster

I want to see balls in the middle of the field. Teams don't even defend that because they know Hurts won't throw there. Really that is 1/3 of the field he doesn't even use. It's either deep or screens and Hurts needs to expand his horizons now,but first he needs to make more than 1 read to do that. If you recall,even the few balls to Quez were usually outside patterns started from the slot spot

Ham, you are forced to embrace the " dual threat"  because you don't believe he will ever be good enough without running the ball.   

To me the mobility is a tool... but I don't want my QB running the ball 17 times in a game.   Mahomes is plenty mobile... he runs like 3 times per game.

See this is your problem.   

You fall in love with players / coaches/ GMs.... then you hate players / coaches/ GMs..   for you the guys you love,  do zero wrong.  You find excuses for them all day long.

The guys you hate....  you find BS reasons to blame them for everything !

The place you are in right now.    This is what is going to happen.   The Eagles are going to have a great season...and you aren't going to enjoy it.  Because the coach who took over the dumpster fire and has the highest winning percentage in franchise history ...and the only GM to win a SB... you don't like for dumb reasons.

Yes...the defense was dominating... take a sack... and punt....game over.

And he needs to adjust to the locker room.  That's what leadership is. Knowing when to do leadership things.  He is no longer the " little brother"   

That's the issue we have had with our QBs.... Cunningham, McNabb,  Wentz.... those guys were young mature guys.... as they got older none of them developed into the mature older guys.   

The players voted on things within their organization...across the NFL. 

The players voted....Siri got an A.   

If the QB has a problem with that... the organization seems to have let him know.... " tough spit"  he is our guy.  Grow up now.

To me this is huge.   Now he can grow.  Getting your ass kissed is not a good thing in mental development.   That part seems over now.

But curious....you say Hurts has things to work on?   Yet you never mention anything... it always turns into something somebe else can do.

I just found the shoe last night...listened for the first few minutes in the car on way to kids swim meet. 

They said they will be on 6 to 7 weekdays. 

For those out of the area....who don't like TMZ...or any other left field theories...  this is something local specifically on the Eagles.   Get a feel for what's going on.
