Is there only 89 on the roster right now? Uar doesn't count.

Wonder if they are looking into signing Michael Jordan. Brought him in for rookie mini-camp, and they could definitely use more depth along the OL. There really isn't a Toth or Pryor on the line this year, so this could be a solid pickup.

I think he's a little old, honestly. Plus he seems to be happy just running his Nascar team at this point.

You would think if the NHL allows the Leafs to choose between PHI and BOS that the earlier pick would go to the Flyers due to BOS being in the same division as TOR, but the NHL will try to figure out a way to screw the Flyers, as they always do.

How would you rate Howie's offseason so far? I think so far it's a mixed bag and if the Brown trade goes down, that will be the force that pushes it to one side of the fence or the other.

The good is they addressed all of their needs to some capacity sans safety. Not all with the highest quality(like OL... still think depth is severely lacking), but at least addressed almost all of them somewhat. They made the coaching changes needed and are trying to modernize their offense to emulate the best offenses in the NFL. They were able to make splashes at positions they wanted to. WR, Edge, able to keep Goedert and add Stowers and re-signed Davis.

The bad(or potential bad) is they came into this offseason with specific things they wanted to accomplish and were unable to accomplish a lot of those major things. Had specific OCs in mind they wanted and were shut out on their top guys and had to pivot. Doesn't mean it won't end up working out, we've seen their plan C's work out better than their plan A's before, but still... they came into the offseason with specific OC targets in mind and didn't get any of them. The guy they ended up choosing has never run an NFL offense before in his life. Major gamble. They also wanted to keep Stoutland as OL coach only and he left and had to pivot to a guy who has not had great OLs in Minnesota. They wanted to keep Jaelan Phillips and were unable to do so. Yes, I know he got overpaid. But they thought coming into the offseason, the best version of the Eagles was with Jaelan Phillips and they were unable to keep him. You have two key OL who were in Colombia getting stem cell treatment which isn't great... that tells you they weren't feeling great otherwise, why go at all? So their lack of quality OL depth added this offseason is a concern. Also lost some key front office people.

So I think you have a lot of positives and a lot of negatives at least on the surface. I think my opinion on the offseason at least as it stands right now will be solidified when we see what the trade ends up being with Brown assuming it goes down. If Howie gets market value, I'll say I "lean positive" in the offseason. If he gets taken under the table on a deal I'll lean negative. I don't think there is anything though that will have me saying it was an amazing offseason though or a terrible one. Those would be more hindsight down the road in case a couple moves go way better than expected or way worse.

Lemon, Stowers and Payton.

If I had to pinpoint one key to this offseason, it is actually not a move that Howie makes or doesn't make. It's the health of Lane Johnson. If he is himself, this teams wins many games. Been proven over and over again in his career. The most irreplaceable Eagle I've seen in my lifetime. Fred Johnson goes back to being 6th offensive lineman in his best role. And everything else will fall into place. Kinda like Zack Wheeler for the Phillies. The Ace and staff leader comes back and everyone can play their role comfortably. Yes, he's 36. But this guy's a freak and raises the overall IQ of the offense when on the field. If he misses parts of the season and isn't himself, the Eagles most likely go nowhere. A healthy Johnson puts the team on that next tier.

He should have signed a safety in the 5-6 million dollar range and needs to bring in MB or another vet for depth at OG. Outside of that I can't imagine him doing any better than he did. On paper they are stacked across the roster and should be a problem for the teams they face. Oh, I wish he got a better UDFA kicker because it would have offset eating Jake's contract. Howie aced it, though.

Unfortunately, based on his history we have to assume he's gonna miss time. Just gotta hope it's only a couple games.

Yep, which is why having F Johnson back was so important. Hopefully, one of the kids from last year takes a step as well.

On the flipside we are depending on a healthy interior line that was not at all healthy last year and Roseman didn't really so anything to add anything back there for if/when Dickerson and Jurgens aren't able to play.

It seems that he's injured more than he actually is. He seems to break down every 4 or 5 years with a long term injury and shortened season. He should be nicely rested and they know how to monitor his workload. The problem with last year is he played hurt with an ankle injury and then got the lisfranc injury, while he should have rested it fully. They gotta handle injuries better on this team and let people recover fully before returning. He gave up 0 sacks for the season before that.

True. But the big issue was the misuse of Toth. He was solid at Center. But no good backup for Dickerson was the killer. So they were forced to playing a handicapped Dickerson.

Figured Adam Berry would get one of those job openings. Now we see who the new cap guy is.

For this year, RT is covered with Fred as a very capable and experienced back up. They have some guys they drafted over the last 2 years to develop and if they don't think they have their long-term replacement, they draft him next year. That's a solid plan. And Howie was smart to have this ready in case they didn't get their RT in this draft.

The bigger concern is Dickerson and Jurgens. I'm sure they've been mindful of their injury recovery. Micah Morris and Jaelen Roberts are some nice pickups to develop but unless they really step up, hard to feel confident in a backup to Dickerson. Toth did fine as a backup to Jurgens, with him gone we have to hope current depth is ok if Jurgens gets hurt.

And don't roll out liabilities who are too injured to be effective.

Lane is a key every season. I will say this scheme should be less dependent on the OT's winning pass rush reps on an island. I think that should help Fred Johnson if and when he has to fill in on the OL.

Last year's injury management was atrocious, especially on the OL. Cost the team a real shot at repeating

If we take coachest into account, it's a C+/B-. Solid but unspectacular. I don't think Mannion is going to be great, but I think the combo of Mannion/Grizzard will be better than Patullo (super high bar there).

I think the draft was fine. Again, unspectacular. I do love the Bernard pick because it's someone fun to watch during camp instead of the normal bottom of the roster dudes but I dont expect anything from him at all.

Greenard trade was fine.

Whole lot of fine

I will say Fred is a nice fill-in for a couple games and he doesnt necessarily cost you games. But EOD, he has a 48 PFF rating in 2024 and 58 PFF rating in 2025. We need Lane to be special to win anything. Giving up 0 sacks a season like he does is just crazy. Can leave him on an island and not worry about chipping and using a TE. And Fred becomes a dominant run blocking TE. Offense is at a whole another level with Mailata and Johnson as bookends. In the 2024-25 Superbowl, Jurgens and Dickerson were both shot and the offense still looked pretty good. You take LJ out, that's when it becomes a big hit. Going from an elite RT to a mediocre RT is something you will feel. Think you can survive Jurgens or Dickerson out individually, (maybe not in tandem) and still win it all, as long as LJ is in.

The Eagles's training staff probably has too much ego involved in avoiding lost games due to injuries. If you combine that with the incentive for the player to play, it's easy to see why they are clearing players to play when they are functionally not right. I imagine Stoutland also had a role in not getting them to sit out until they were better.

Why was Johnston's official title and are any of these his replacement?

Got a B for Howie this offseason. Which can turn into an A+ if he acquires either Delpit/Reid. Signs Becton or the like. And eliminates Missy by Game 1. The UDFA Kicker, Verhoff they have in camp should give him some legit competition. Strong and accurate leg & knuckleball expert on kickoffs. He should get some run in preseason. Hope he takes the job and Missy face plants. At worst, he starts off the season on the PS.
