I get both sides of the argument. You aren't wrong...but the team quit and so did the fans. Who in their right mind wanted to go to that game down 0-3? If someone gave me free tickets, I'd have sold them.

not just that game though. they didnt show up all series. Let the knicks fans take over again.

The stadium used to be half full for process era teams that were actually fun to watch. Could get 10 dollar tickets, and then you basically had a choice of where you wanted to sit once you got in the arena because it was so empty.

Soon they start winning and then suddenly you hear about what a great crowd they have. Always found that funny...

Hurts is going to struggle with under center play action. Qbs that is slow Processing and now has to take his eyes off the defense. The PR is right on schedule, but i am skeptical

I don't know that he will struggle because the reads are pretty well defined. This isn't a west coast offense where there are 5 routes to read. It's designed with very specific throws in mind. I think the bigger isssue will be him making throws to a spot without necessarily seeing the receiver in over the middle throws.

Teams slowed down the RPO here when they made him start to second guess the quick read.

How does this new offense work when he is late on his 1-2 quick reads? Cause he will be. Hes not a quick processor. And if teams know where he wants to go with the ball on a RPO and make him hesitate, hes cooked. We saw that happen already.

Still BS. Its not a great basketball town. They are front running basketball fans.

Eagles fans show up for a bad team in playoffs.

Plus, the knicks did this to us recently. There should have been more motivation not to let it happen again. Thats an embarrassment.

Embarrassing is an owner that trades away talent to avoid the tax, the whole NBA structure and raining threes with no defense. I would rather watch a Kelvin Sampson UH team (low scoring games but awesome defense) than any of the garbage the NBA puts out.

Maybe if the best basketball in Philly wasn’t on playgrounds, parks and gyms around town, this would be different. With Maxey’s finger issue, the fans knew the Sixers had no chance regardless of whether Embid played or not.

He’s a commanders fan. He’ll learn what Sixers fans have about the dysfunction and poor decision making that Harris allows from his teams and FOs.

Tend to think the Sixers fans would show up if the team gave them any type of hope for a championship. i think most Sixers fans realize the writing is in the wall with this iteration and that it’s in a purgatory. The reality is even with a 3-1 comeback, fans still didn’t believe in this team. Most also hate their ownership and realize how many blunders their FO has made over the years.

For sure. When it’s humming, it can be point and shoot. But the system isn’t half field reads. It’s progression based. Purdy’s game-winning TD to McCaffrey against us is a great example of when it gets muddied. Hurts has never shown that ability to get to the fourth or fifth read (tbf, most QBs don’t).

In Hurts’ defense, this is the first offseason in his life where he’ll actually major in the under center scheme. It was always used as a small change up in the past.

It’s how multiple looks get designed. There is a dose of the Air Raid and Lincoln Riley layering in the McVay and Shanahan offenses. Moore was incorporating some of that but it disappeared with Patullo. No one on this planet could have got to a fourth read with what Patullo put out last year.

Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay will literally call the play in, look at the defense, and tell the QB who to throw to.

Is there some reading if that doesn't work? Sure. But the majority of their offenses have been very point and shoot. There is not a ton of reading.

I think you’re exaggerating that to a certain extent. McVay isn’t treating Stafford like he did Goff. Shanahan isn’t telling Purdy who to throw to, but when the play goes in, he might say if we get this look, X should be open.

Funny, in the game where they used a bunch of under center play action, Hurts had one of the best games he had last season. What if he thrives instead? Will you be disappointed?

Of course not, but thanks for assuming nefarious intent

I will be surprised, no doubt

Tbh think sixers fans have stopped having hope and fully investing in the team since the game 6 and 7 let down in 2023 to the Celtics. Imo that was the line of demarcation where fans said I’m over this and they aren’t winning anything with this iteration of the sixers.

I also don’t think this is exclusive to Philly or Sixers fans. I’ve been to lakers games when the lakers weren’t very good. The year after Kobe retired. That arena wasn’t nearly as juiced or packed as when they are rolling. Been to Red Sox game at Fenway in a year they weren’t good. Still a nice crowd but it had plenty of opposing fans and seats open. Heck MSG in 2018 had an eagles chant and NY fans let Philly fans take over cause they were over James dolen at that point.

They’re only a handful of teams across the sport where fans will show up regardless. It’s the Eagles, the Packers, the Buffalo Bills. It is mainly NFL with some of the other iconic sports teams mixed in. But for the most part if you don’t have hope or belief in the team, they stopped coming out as much and investing their time and money.

I'm not going to pay $150 to sit in the nosebleed... perhaps people in Philadelphia have bigger priorities than partaking in a mediocre basketball experience (if they're lucky).

And hurts has never been good at post snap reads. Inthink he will get caught holding the ball too often and the timing wont work

Teams did start defending the read better. The team also struggled to adapt and disguise the plays. If a defense knows what you're going to do, it's much easier to defend the play. That is true with any offensive system. If Mannion comes in and they run the same plays from the same exact formation the plays will be well defended. The Shanahan system works best when the play action meshes with the run game. The run game is varied to include more WR runs. Motion is used to create mismatches. If the concern is that he will have to read the defense before making the throw, I think that's less of a concern for this system.

Probably - can we run the ball better, can Jalen hit a couple deep balls a game, will he takeoff N/S when he gets passed his 2nd read. The defense will be good, this will be the way after September.

I thought last year it was reported that Hurts actually performs better under center. It's a small sample size. But I looked at the stats over his career and it's interesting...and also highlights how coaching affects things so we'll see with this new scheme what it looks like. Under center in comparison to shotgun:

2020: 11 attempts (played 4 games rookie year). Higher completion %. Higher passer rating, higher YPA.

2021: 23 attempts. Lower completion % and passer rating, higher YPA. He had 1 INT under center this year, his only INT under center in his career

2022: 21 attempts. Lower completion % and passer rating, lower YPA (lowest YPA of his career). This season is considered his best year.

2023: 20 attempts. Higher completion %. Much higher passer rating, much higher YPA

2024: 43 attempts. Lower completion % and passer rating, almost the same YPA (8.0 vs 8.1 in shotgun)

2025: 52 attempts. Lower completion %, higher passer rating, higher YPA. Also had 5 TDs from under center (other years were either 0 or 1).

Career: Lower completion %, higher passer rating, higher YPA, only 1 INT.

Also interesting that in the last 2 years with 2 different OCs they've more than doubled the amount of plays under center than previous OCs including his best year with Steichen. But yet there's the narrative that he "refuses" to run plays under center. If that's the case and as he's grown into a veteran with playoff wins and a SB how does it fit that they're running under center more?

So this year new coach, scheme and a lot of change. We'll find out how he does if they're doing more under center, we'll be able to compare to prior years.

Jalen is running less often and has become less effective when he does; playing under center is way to jump start the run game and keep the QB unconcussed. It's not a secret sauce for the pass game.

My hope is that the design of the system makes him have to just make a throw.

I'm confused. I thought everyone wanted less running ("he's a RB playing QB") and more passing, and more under center. So last year they ran more under center and he ran less, he had his most TDs under center by far and a high passer rating.

Obviously the offense was not good last year. And under Steichen which was his best year they had low number of plays under center. So just doing something for the sake of doing it doesn't help unless the entirety of the offense is well coached and executed. 2022 proved they can be efficient and do well without under center. But the coaching was the best as well.

Again, we'll find out with Mannion running things in a completely new way how Hurts responds. But when he's been under center, he's been efficient.

32 minutes ago, ToastJenkins said:

Actually, the delay in getting the play in really limited the time Hurts had to read defenses and probably contributed to his time between snap and release. Try reading an NFL defense in 2 seconds alone. Hopefully that is cured this year. (I suspect running the plays by Nick slows things down. If that shows this year, Howie and Lurie need to come down on that hard).

How is Bechton not on our roster still?

Outside of play action - I hope we see more passing concepts like these:

I don't think these would be difficult reads for Hurts or hard throws.

Doesn't make any sense to sign him. He only played well during his pro career when he played under Stoutland and we no longer have Stoutland.

Go meteor (and someone tell the gints social media staff that when you’re the home team your name goes last).
