Derrick Mason comp is a new one.

McLane from his latest pod

Doesn't believe the talk that AJ Brown prefers to be traded because of his personal relationship with Hurts is fair. He thinks the on the field stuff and his lack of confidence in Hurts as a QB is fair and that's a big part of it as well as him just not liking the offense, but their personal relationship is in a good place.

Hurts made a point to get together with AJ Brown during the season and hash out their differences. AJ Brown was resistant to it at first but eventually relent and they got on the same page.

Thinks they'll get a 1st for Brown and it will go down Monday or Tuesday.

In 2024 Kellen Moore and Sirianni had to scrap some of the things they wanted to do because Hurts wasn't picking it up well so it will be interesting to see how Hurts picks up this offense but believes he's putting a ton of work in to master it.

So far in the small sample they've seen in OTAs the offense definitely looks as different as advertised. A lot more under center and motion.

Eagles players talked about how different even the blocking schemes are so it's going to be a big adjustment for all of them and it's going to take a while to mesh.

Believes the outside zone scheme can get more mileage and production out of Barkley going forward.

Notable how comfortable the Eagles already are with Bell that Bell was taking RT snaps when Lane missed practice.

Small sample, but thought Makai Lemon looked the part.

He mentioned a story about how in 2012 when the Eagles drafted Marvin McNutt he was watching him during practice and McNutt looked terrible he couldn't even get off the line and he went to an Eagles coach and mentioned that McNutt looked terrible and the coach was like "Yep he does."

Interesting that Dalton was taking QB2 snaps. Doesn't think a trade is imminent, thinks it's more of a situation where the Eagles want to be prepared if another team's QB goes down and come calling for McKee. But said Dalton looked absolutely terrible in the OTAs(he isn't the only person I heard say this)

My understanding is that it is actually going to be beneficial cap wise going forward with Brown traded than if he were on the team.

I meant when it comes to trading vs holding on to a player. If Howie structured contracts like other teams he has more of a case to tell the player to screw off and play. When these annual bonuses come into play it makes it harder to justify paying them to someone that doesn’t want to be here.

In any event, it’s a superior advantage to do what Howie does and take it on the chin from time to time with these unique circumstances.

Yea he really proved his eliteness by throwing sub 60% and more INT’s than TD’s last year. The guys delusional.

McCarthy didn’t actually say that.

I think Aj can't settle down. His comments after the SB were a sign of that. I get what he was saying but still I think some people just can't be happy where they are. The grass is always greener with the next thing.

That one guy who thinks a first in 2028 is too much for Brown and that the Pats should maybe get a day 2 pick back to make the deal is delusional. A 2028 first is the absolute worst he Eagles should do in this trade. I think the Eagles should AT LEAST get back something like a 2027 3rd for a 2027 5th in addition to the 2028 first. Either that or a 2027 first.

As an Eagles fan I don't feel bad for him but at the same time it is kind of sad. I know a lot of people like this. They accomplish all kinds of things and they simply never stop to enjoy it and realize how lucky they are. The are always chasing the next thing and often find reasons to be negative about good things so they can keep chasing something else. I give it two years where he is happy and highly productive in New England before the same cycle repeats.

Oh and McLane said and he's said this before that the Eagles thinking that they've gotten the best of Brown already factors into this and if they thought he'd still be a top 4 WR going forward Howie wouldn't consider doing this even with Brown being unhappy.

And he said from talking to people he thinks most teams view AJ Brown as 2nd round value.

Also said Greenard wasn't fully practicing, still recovering from offseason surgery.

Yep I think AJ's knees are a thing. I do think he has a good year left maybe even 2 but I don't think 3.

DeVonta Smith has to be the most underpaid WR in the NFL, especially now that he will be the undisputed top dog in the WR room this season and going forward. He still has 3 years left on his deal and turns 28 in November but if I'm the Eagles I would be thinking about giving him a raise this year and adding 1-2 years on his current deal to both keep him happy and get that done now because that price is only going to go up especially after this season when I expect him to have an All Pro level season.

Howie got him early. Even the year he got his contract. I think some of the top guys got new contracts that year too. Pretty sure JJ did

Well let's hope that contract is a problem meaning Smith has 120 catches, 15 TD's and 1300 yards this year. He does that, I'm sure Howie will do something!

It seems like receivers lose it pretty fast around 30 years old these days. I wouldn't be extending receivers much past that.

It must be because the fact of the matter is there were only two teams in the entire league who were actually serious about trading for him and apparently one of those teams (the Rams) were actually concerned about his knees. I'm guessing Brown goes to New England and balls out this season, is less effective in year two, and then the decline really starts and he might even be looking to go elsewhere again by then.

What's with all the Achilles injures the last few years? I don't remember them being this frequent 20 years ago.

Without statistics to back it up, it seems like there are more injuries in general, not just Achilles. I've wondered sometimes if with the evolution of training and nutrition, professional athletes' bodies are running very close to their body's red line. When machines run close to the red line for a long time they seem more prone to breakdown.

In the manufacturing sector you have something called preventative maintenance. Without a good PM program the equipment goes to crap and costs go way up.

I suspect it’s a lot of the same principles in athletics. The athletes smart enough to take care of their bodies during breaks using tools like massage, physio, nutrition, and flexibility exercises like yoga probably sustain fewer injuries and improved recovery time.
