IMO, the NYG and WFT seem to be on the right track.  They have made very strong hires and are building teams in accordance to their HC styles.  Rivera and Del Rio walked in to a great defensive situation.  Now let's see if they can find their quarterback and build off last years success.  Keeping that defense intact will be Snyder's biggest challenge.  

Judge and the NYG aren't great yet but I think he's going to be a great coach.  I don't think Daniel Jones is their answer.

Dallas has great players.  It's their coaching that is lacking right now.  McCarthy was the wrong guy.  I loved the CeeDee Lamb pick but they drafted 2 potential starting corners, DT and C last year.  

Again, I'm talking about what these teams are doing moving forward and I think they are making good moves.

What these stats also tell me is that all the Eagles had to do was win a weak NFCE over the last 20 years.  

Let's start with WFT. A horribly run front office (worse even than our own current FO). Looking at their recent draft history suggests when they don't pick in the top 10, they aren't very good, with the exception of nailing Sweat and McLaurin in one draft (though they also had a huge swing and miss with Haskins that same draft). Their top players though were drafted basically in the top 5. That's not really sustainable. 

Yes, they have a very good defense. Here's the thing though, Rivera and Del Rio both have had good to great defenses in the past. Both had issues with putting out good offenses. So it appears the same old song and dance again in Washington with them. Scott Turner is the o-coordinator, but looking at his resume, it seems he is where he is mostly due to nepotism and connections. He hasn't really run a very successful offense. 

Del Rio has been a not good head coach (wood chopping anybody?) and when his few successes have come, it's led by a defensive effort. Rivera's success came more from Scam Newton balling out like crazy that one year. As we can now see, it wasn't repeatable. In fact, Rivera has had only 3 winning seasons out of 10 that he's been a head coach. 

So with a league trending more and more to offense, and a history of defensive coaches who have had marginal success, what is so scary about WFT? Yes, with a good QB it could take them over the hump. Where is that guy this year? Or even next year? Washington has become the quintessential example of a losing culture that has gone on for so long, it's hard to envision them having any kind of sustained success. I am not worried about WFT at all. They may in fact win the division this year, but as long as Snyder runs the show, he's shown to be far more incompetent than anything else at this point. 

 

The Giants are more interesting. Defensively not as good as Washington, but certainly much better offensively. Joe Judge is an unknown, he could be good, we just don't know. The history of Belichek coaches isn't great, but that shouldn't doom him outright. 

Gettleman, since being named GM, has a 10-30 record, worst in the entire league. They have a few good players. Martinez, Bradberry, Williams, Hernandez, Saquon, Golloday and Slayton. Saquon is heading into his 5th year....do you extend him beyond that? If so, you're paying a ton of money to him. How many times do we have to see that's a bad idea? Golloday for all the hype is oft injured. Slayton/Shepherd are essentially the same guy. The problem in New York is the same as Washington tho, no QB. Maybe they too find one, but the odds seem stacked against them. They have a bad o-line, and while I know Thomas struggled early last year, I'm not sure how he ended the year honestly. 

Also like Wash, as long as Gettleman is in charge, I'm not concerned with them. Gettleman seems to be an idiot, and the results bear that out. 

 

So then there's Dallas. Yes, they have big flashy names. You know what they don't have? Success. Elliot was a massive failure, when you consider the contract they gave him and the production they have from Pollard. Massive failure. But he sells jerseys, so Jerry loves him. Cooper's production was worth the first round pick they traded to get him. Lamb seems to be worthy of the slot he was drafted in. Gallup is a nice 3rd WR to have. Dak is a great garbage time QB. So if they get Pitts, so what? They've neglected the O-line since they were anointed as having the best unit in the league. It's in shambles and only getting worse. If Dallas uses their first this year to address O line, I'd actually be impressed. If they take Pitts, I'll just laugh my head off. Yes, they have all the pieces for a great offense. Yes, they drafted Diggs last year who likes like he could be a good player. But that's it. The rest of their defense is putrid. Beyond putrid. While it is trending towards being an offensive league, you cannot just give up completely on defense, which it appears Dallas has done. Until they address O-line and defense, why would you ever worry about them?

That doesn't even take into account how bad of a coach McCarthy is. Jerry may quickly fire him, but much like Snyder with Wash, as long as Jerry has power there, what have they done to really make you worry about them? They could easily lose Dak next year (or this year, depending on his recovery) and then who is going to get all those shiny weapons the ball? Elliot looks like his wheels are about to fall off. 

 

None of the above absolves the Eagles and their numerous mistakes. But what we have seen since the early 2000s is the Eagles have been able to adapt and transform and remain relatively competitive to the rest of the league. Wash had a flash in the pan moment with RG3, which they completely bungled. NYG had the Eli days, which was mostly buoyed by a fantastic D-line. As much as I hate Eli, he did come up with some very clutch throws in big moments. And Dallas, they've been on the spectrum of below average to average the last 20 years, unable to swing the pendulum any higher. 

Again, none of this is to say the Eagles don't have their concerns. Lurie becoming more meddlesome could be an issue moving forward. Howie still being employed could also be an issue, but we have him now and I'm interested to see how he digs out of this hole. If he can't, he'll be fired (hopefully). But the Eagles now have a lot of picks in this draft, and what appears to be 3 1st rounders next year. I would be actually very surprised to see the Eagles not competing for the division crown again by 2023.

Whenever the Eagles seem very low (2007, 2012, 2015), they tend to bounce back the following year.  

Howie's had a competent, restrained off-season so far. His coaches are young. I still want to fire him, but 2020 being a disaster does not mean 2021 will be good or bad.

Much of trading is the Keynes "beauty contest," knowing how your counterparts think, not how the underlying fundamentals work.

What is often forgotten are the "losers" in trading are often as smart as the winners, just not as lucky (like a gambler, you win a few trades/deals you get the leeway to go .500 the rest of your career, lose your first few trades, you don't have a career). For one thing, they're all chosen from a similar talent pool.

This has been shown by numerous studies of financial professionals, that few sustain long-term success that can't be explained by luck.

Fitzmagic is almost 40.  He may have a few good games in him, but I doubt he can keep it up for a whole season.  Heinecke is a journeyman QB with a noodle arm, he may be a "game" that's good for some good starts, but again I doubt he can keep it up for a whole season.  If Trey Lance starts falling and WFT can pull a trade off to get him, that will be a big problem.  They've got some decent talent at skill positions, a very young and up and coming defense, and you can combine that with a good young QB.  Sounds like the same model the Seahawks followed.

Their weapons are much better than decent. We are done, especially with the circus Jeff is creating here, done

Pederson met with the FO every Tuesday, and even after wins, he was being criticized for running the ball to much.  Apparently Lurie was not happy with the Green Bay win when we ran the ball down their throat, and wants to be a passing team.

Also talk about the meeting with Schwartz to start the Super Bowl season, they were vetting him to replace Pederson as they did not think he would make it through the season and they would have to make a coaching change mid season.

Coaches wanted their evaluations taken into account or felt like certain players were forced upon them, scouts didn’t understand why picks didn’t correspond with an established methodology, and other staffers were unsure how their analysis was being applied in decisions. Departments became siloed — or even pitted against each other — and the lack of collaboration made finger-pointing easier.

Interesting reveal here for some.  This guy was basically a draft nerd before buying the team with his inherited millions.  Just a bored rich guy who would tell you he’s been deep into the NFL draft for 30 years.

The owner and his lackey have made a mockery of this team we all support.  Until people actually consume what they are being told, digest it, understand, and decide it’s time to hold them accountable, we can all expect more of the same.

The 2017 championship emboldened these people to take things a step further than before.  They are 100% responsible for what the team is now.  It’s not the coaches, scouts or players.  It’s laughable to criticize other organizations when this one has achieved peak dysfunction.

This is the kid that Roseman has running around talking down to coaches and others in the organization.
