Conley is still on the street.

really hope they can get an LB here in the fourth.

i went back to my board and i had all three of our picks on there. I just would have gone different positions. We knew we would take an iOL and DL at some point. Patience

I actually like Conley. I like the potential and feel at the very least it's an upgrade over Maddox.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

So we have 20 some picks before the Eagles pick in the 4th.  I'm wondering if we see Howie package 123 and a few 6ths to get to the top of the 4th round.  There's still talent on the board but it's going to fly off.  This is a list of guys I kept an eye on pre-draft.

QB

Ian Book

RB

Kenneth Gainwell, Rhamondre Stevenson, Michael Carter, Kylin Hill, Jaret Patterson

WR

Tylan Wallace, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Dazz Newsome, Seth Williams, Tamorrion Terry, Sage Surratt, Simi Fehoko

TE

Kenny Yeboah, Brevin Jordan, Luke Farrell

G

Trey Smith

DT

Darius Stills, Marvin Wilson

DE

Quincy Roche, Adetokunbo Ogundeji, Jonathon Cooper, Rashad Weaver

LB

Cameron McGrone, Jabril Cox, Charles Snowden, Tony Fields, Paddy Fisher, Dylan Moses

S

Richard LeCounte, Paris Ford, Ar’Darius Washington, Jamar Johnson, James Wiggins, Talanoa Hufanga, Trill Willams, JaCoby Stevens

DIckerson may well have been BPA, the two DBs who went after him, Moehring and Joseph, are flawed prospects. Moehring was better in 2019 than 2020, a red flag, while Joseph is raw. So if the medicals checked out on Dickerson, he was a 1st rd value - he did play 24 straight games for Alabama before blowing out his ACL, if it was a simple tear, that's routine surgery these days. The DBs were not considered 1st rd value. Indy used #6 and #37 on guards when Reich arrived, after using #18 on a center two years before - so interior OL play seems a vital part of the Reich scheme that Sirianni will probably implement.

There were no reaches, there were two gambles on value, Dickerson on health and Williams on size v athleticism.

The 6th rd has real value b/c UDFAs are going to be very weak this year and waiver wire pickings will be slim, given the small draft class. So you'd better load up on those third day picks to fill out the roster and the PS. This is more of an issue for weak teams, better teams will probably trade up into the 4th round today to get players with a real shot of cracking their rosters and contributing this season.

So, to be clear, regression from 2019 to 2020 is a red flag, but when its the Eagles struggling in 2020 its due to Covid.

Moerhig and Joseph are flawed, but a guy who has zippers in his legs due to a series of injuries year after year is not flawed and it is not a red flag.  To be clear:  Freshman year: 4 games - injured, Sophomore year: 7 games - injured, Medical red shirt.  Junior year - finished.  Senior year:  11 games - injured.

You claim Dickerson was a first round value... only according to some, his injuries pushed him down.  But according to most boards, Moehrig was also a guy with Round 1 value, and at a position where McLeod is in his final year and Harris is on a one year deal.  But, let's not worry about that.  He had a slip last year during the Covid season.  That's a red flag.   Injuries and missing the end of the season 4 out of 5 years of college football isn't anything but 'bad luck', I guess.

Biggest problem the Eagles had last year offensively was... what?   That's right - injuries.   And if this guy can't stay healthy, please, please, please for the sake of all things holy, do NOT tell us after it happens that it was just 'bad luck'.  If he is injured again, it's not 'bad luck', it's a continuation of a pattern.

No Nixon?

Surprised Eagles announced Williams as a DE.  I’m big fan of Nixon do wondering if that keeps him in play?

Maybe if we consider Milton a DE... otherwise do we need 2x 3T?

Something that struck me this morning as I was reading more about our draft so far is that the Eagles aren’t just adding more talent to the roster...

they are remaking the team in terms of attitude and identity. Style aside, I think that started with the new coaching staff and is now working its way through the draft.

these guys LOVE LOVE the game. They want to cut your heart out and serve it back to you.

That part I do like.   Maybe we've finally landed on a specific identity.   And we'll just all cross our fingers for Dickerson being able to stay on the field.

I think Williams is a DE in the way Curry was a DE.  He's primarily a run stopper type DE, that can kick inside for pass rushing purposes.  He's either an oversized DE or an undersized DT.  He'd likely fit best as a strong side DE, nickel DT.

I said this last night, he's the JOK of the D-Line.  Incredible athlete without a position.

If we are supersizing our DL, maybe Bobby Brown?

In Round 3, that doesn't bother me.  Take the upside uber athlete.

Strategy is to add the best possible talent through the draft, regardless of need. DeVonta is DeVonta, Dickerson has All-Pro potential with injury risks, Milton has the traits to be a high level starter.

They are not looking at the draft to fill short to mid term needs, I think Howie could careless if they win 3 games next year. This is a long rebuild as far as the FO is concerned and they are just accumulating the best possible talent they can for that.

I think Lurie cares.  I don’t love either of the 2nd day picks but I am not concerned about them passing on a CB. I am concerned about trading down for an extra 6th when there’s a player you value at a position of need available.  This isn’t a deep draft.  There’s very little value in a 6th round pick.  Not taking a CB in the top 100 almost makes it certain they will have to invest in a veteran CB. So really the 6th comes with the added cost of a veteran that’s going to take a roster spot and not be a long term fix.

Some back 7 guys still available:

Jabril Cox, LB, LSU

Caden Sterns, S, Texas

Jamar Johnson, S, Indiana

Tay Gowan, CB, UCF

Shaun Wade, DB, Ohio St

Marco Wilson, CB, Florida

Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama

DJ Daniel, CB, Georgia

Justin Hilliard, LB, Ohio St

Jacoby Stevens, S/LB, LSU

Kary Vincent, CB, LSU

Olaijah Griffin, CB, USC

Mark Gilbert, CB, Duke

So I generally hate when the Eagles draft players based on NCAA stats (Jordan Matthews, Marcus Smith, Derek Barnett, Gocong, even Graham) despite being underwhelming physical specimens.

But there is a difference between racking up stats at your position and being the most dominant unstoppable player in all of college football, regardless of position.

So while Devonta Smith isn’t my type, you’ve got to give him that.

I sure as effing hell hope it’s not.

Great.  So we drafted our back up IOL for 2021 in the 2nd round that may be healthy enough to play at some point this year.  Basically, assume that Brooks, Dillard and Lane are healthy to start the season, one of Dillard or Mailata is the back up tackle.  Have to believe that Driscoll practices at G and maybe some C, so this year, Dickerson, when healthy enough to play supplants Herbig and Juriga.  Not a red shirt season but close enough.

And reaching for a CB in the 3rd round? This team got in trouble by drafting for need to try and keep the window open.

Now they've accepted the window is closed and sticking with the board.

I think Jabril Cox would be a fantastic pick for this defense in round 4, but they’d clearly have to trade up for him.

Package about four 6th round picks (then we’ll still have 8 left) and our 4th.

Two guys I want the Eagles to target with their zillion 6th round picks: Dylan Moses and Jamie Newman. Both very talented players, with major red flags. Need them to go full YOLO in the 6th.

There will be an opening in the OL by week 3.

Even if they drafted Slater, who would sit? Seumalo? Certainly not Kelce or Brooks.

I really dislike the idea of getting "your guy". It's arrogant to think you know better when all the stats show otherwise.

So you dislike all trade ups?

Yep, he's going to be one of the first 3 off the board...I'd do that trade in a heartbeat.

With all the picks they've got (is it 8/9 picks) today then yeah I'd package some up and start to move up in rounds.

😕    That's what they were doing?   I thought Dillard was just too good a value to pass up prospect, which is why they drafted him without having actually gone out to work him out?   I thought Sydney Jones was just too good a value at CB to pass up, despite his injury?   I thought Jalen Hurts was a great value in Round 2 and they didn't 'need' a backup QB, because they already had Nate "unstoppable" Sudfeld under contract?  What about trading up to get Dallas Goedert when they had Ertz on the roster, that was a 'need'?

I don’t dislike the pick. I am more concerned about the Dickerson pick.  For some reason last night, I was thinking his 2nd ACL was in 2019. I realize now it was 4 months ago. I feel very meh about the pick. I don’t think it was a bad evaluation but I have no faith in the medical staff’s judgment.
