Andrew McCutchen scores the 1st run of the MLB season  --- Racist

I love that guy. A few years back he was at the YMCA where I lift. I didn't bother him though. I will say he wasn't working out too hard. ( His wife used to live in the gated community in my town)

Gotta love that Kyle Hendricks, all about equality in baseball letting McChutchen get a single off him, then hitting a batter and giving up another hit to be sure he scored.

So I'm racist because I want to see historically marginalized groups of individuals receive an equal shot?  And people really think its crazy to point how racist this board is?

You're not looking for an equal shot. You're happy with a certain group being ostracized from consideration solely based on their gender, race, and/or sexual preferences.

I’m a stickler for the term "systemic racism.” It’s thrown around a lot, but few can actually point to specifically what systems they’re talking about and what about the systems specifically are racist.

Regardless, interviewing better isn’t necessarily related to any bias. Maybe one candidate is just more affable and charismatic than another. Generally, I think bias is perfectly fine and normal. Wanting an offensive coach over defensive coach is a bias. Preferring a disciplinarian over a mild mannered coach is a bias. Wanting an eye test guy over an analytics guy is a bias.

Outside of sports, wanting to date a blonde over a brunette is a bias. We all have biases.

Huh? White guys have had more opportunities historically, and especially in the NFL those relationships mean something when it comes to hires, and POC just weren’t included in those circles. Past relationships play a role in the hiring process, and who’s more likely to have the connection? The Rooney rule was supposed to be about networking, but it isn’t working.

Its a complicated problem that goes back generations.

Not necessarily. If you hire a white coach because you like his scheme better or the interview had better chemistry then it has nothing to do with racism. Inequities in any of themselves are not proof of bias necessarily. Each hire has to be analyzed on an individual basis. People like to paint a broad brush and make generalizations about every team. It’s not how it works, it’s pretty lazy.

And the interview process is the opportunity, getting the job is the outcome. The reason equity is so toxic is because equity, at least how it’s used today = equality of outcome. No system in any walk of society can function properly with equality of outcome based practices. It doesn’t work.

I understand that personal preference and preference for offensive coaches plays a role but from a legal standpoint a disparity is evidence of race based discrimination.  I mean coaches fail more often than they succeed.  It's not like the system works to get the best candidates.   Equity is toxic when unqualified people are given opportunities.  The same can be said for nepotism, cronyism and host of other isms that are just as negative.  The next job given to the Britt Reid's of the world is much more toxic than any opportunity given to someone because of race.

Ummm...what's their last names? McCaffrey, Borghi, White, White, and White will be tearing it up.

Did the President announce that he was going to appoint a white female followed by the appointment of Amy Comey Barrett?

The problem is the current President said he was going to hire a black woman to the SC.  If Ketanji Brown Jackson was the best candidate after a thorough search and interview process then that would be great.  However, that's not the case.  If you're OK with that thought process and think it's a fair process I'd love to hear why.  Forget about white men or women...think about all of the other minority candidates not even considered.  I think it's important to remember that black people aren't the only minorities in America but it seems they are the most valuable to people who go by identity politics.

There is something positive to be said about diversity being a good target on the Supreme Court.  I like that he appointed someone with a background as a public defender.  That is an important move as well.  Would you have been offended if he had said that he was appointing someone with that background before he had a position to appoint?

Over time those relationships will grow naturally,  without the divisiveness of racist policy.

It was a joke, the "White" ( guys with that last name ) approve of  your all 'White" draft.

Over time sure, but is that fair to people alive right now?

Yes.  No one is holding them down.  All they need to do is earn the job and they are the reason for the continued growth.

Ozzie Newsome, long time NFL executive, hired a white head coach, and groomed a white GM to take over for him.

Is he racist ??

Fair enough sir.

I agree it's a complicated issue. Not all candidates have a past relationship though. For example Nick Sirianni didn't with anyone on the Eagles. At least a few of the minority candidates they interviewed did have past relationships with the Eagles. Bowles, Staley. It's a case by case basis. I do think there needs to be more minority coaches in the pipeline. I don't know how to fix that problem though without overstepping the bounds of fairness though.

I''m not offended at all but to answer your question, if he had said he wanted to appoint someone with a background as a public defender, yes, that would have been much better as it would have provided some insight to the skillset and experience he was looking for, not skin color or gender.

I agree with you that diversity on the SC is a great thing but I also said that by stating he wanted only one race and gender, he was immediately overlooking other minority candidates who could serve as well.

All I can tell you is the clearly racist board would be against drafting him.

I am ok with it because I think the only way to equalize the opportunity is if the people making the hiring solutions make an intentional effort to make their own ranks more diverse.  It's not a long term solution or a perfect one by any means but a step in the right direction.

You make the word "equality" a joke on its very face.

Well there goes the problem. The people who feel they are qualified and not getting opportunities disagree with you. They don’t have 100 years to wait until it’s less of an issue. it’s easy to say "eventually it’ll work itself out” when you’re the benefactor of waiting.

It’s a difficult topic, and some of you guys have very strong feelings on both sides. So I will bow out of this one.

Still hoping we get rid of Hurts!

I would prefer not to do it by phone. 1.) I don't care about race. 2.) Appearance is important 3.) So is demeanor and body language.

(1) Neither do I.  That said, I grew up in the South in the 50s-early ‘70s. My parents were from the Midwest and tried very hard to instill in us a lack of prejudice.  I think they did a good job, but I would be foolish not to recognize that we all have some level of bias within us. (2) There are studies that show that more attractive people fare better in hiring and even treatment after hiring. That’s a bias we don’t tend to recognize but it exists. That’s what I meant about appearance.  (3) There is an amazing amount of demeanor and tone reflects body language.

At the level I participated in interviews, the final interviews were always in person.

The problem is pandering to their feelings when they are incorrect.

Its like everyone in CVON getting mad when I periodically let them know they are not smart.

Kyzir White is my favorite offseason addition

I don’t care about Hurts feelings too much. Good guy, but terrible QB. We need to move on.
