Now we'll see if Andy Weidl gets the Steelers job. If so, Eagles will have to remake the entire FO pretty much.

Going forward, the Eagles need QB, another pass rusher, CB, safety. Sign Mathieu and take care of the rest next year and the team will be going places.

He's 3rd on the depth chart, and he can't run the offense that Hurts requires as QB1.

BUT... the fact that they targeted Strong so strongly would indicate that they don't want to run the offense that Hurts would flourish in, but rather an actual NFL offense and a legit passing game.

Carson Strong throwing to the wide open streaking Quez Watkins all year last year would have been deadly. Quez would have been a 1000 yard WR.

Carson Strong throwing accurately, on time, to AJ Brown on a quick slant will lead to AJ Brown running through arm tackles of smaller DBs all over the field. (Hurts very well may limit his effectiveness. hes not usually wide open but hit him on the move hes nearly impossible to drag down from a trail position.)

Carson Strong delivering accurately and on time to DeVante Smith with all the space he creates, and his cat like quickness is going to allow him to juke defenders out of their jocks and run to the end zone.

These weapons in the WR corps can be maximized with a QB like strong. It could become a truly elite passing offense as soon as he is ready.

If I’m AJB & DeVonta I’m publicly supporting Hurts but secretly rooting for Strong. He has the ability to make them 1.5x their production from Hurts.

Let them play the games. We'll see what happens.

An undrafted QB 3rd on the depth chart will not be competing for the starting job.  Jalen Hurts has already established himself as the starter heading into 2022.  Carson Strong will be fighting for a spot on the 53 man roster.  He needs to show himself too good to cut to the point that the Eagles keep 3 QBs on their roster or good enough that they are willing to trade Minshew for a 3rd or 4th.   At the very least he needs to show himself good enough to comeback on the practice squad.

But competing for the starting job this summer just isn't in the cards and you shouldn't delude yourself into thinking it is.

Has there ever in the history of this league been an undrafted rookie QB that won the starting job in training camp/preseason?  You gotta remember you're thinking that not only will there be a QB competition but Strong will be beating out both Hurts and Minshew for the starting job.

I count Goodrich and Jobe as 5th and 6th round picks got lucky to get both.

Then the Eagles really drafted 10 guys this year.  Not the 5 we are led to believe.

Can someone explain Strong’s injury? Is this something that will cast a shadow on his career or is it something that will heal? Also, is this the reason he was a statue last year? I heard he was playing on one leg and that was why he couldn’t move.

Either way pumped he’s here. RTK should be scared because Strong has the best arm and head in the QB room.

He got surgery and came back too early (because he loves to ball) and was severely limited playing on what looked like a peg leg.

If you pay attention before the injury, and even pre-draft workouts- the guy is not a statue at all. He can move comparably to Foles. I think he is going to shock people with his mobility as soon as he gets to camp. And we have a gem.

QB is covered now. We are going to have 1 first round picks next year that we can spend elsewhere. Maybe an elite CB, or 2.

What I was hoping to hear. But still, is this a career lingering injury?

Graham shouldn't be here beyond this year.  Same with Barnett.  BUT... Sweat, yup... seems a poor fit and they are locked in.

I’d expect that Sweat is well suited to play a W9 specialist on passing downs when we run a typical 4-man front.

In a base 3-man line Fletch/Hargrave/Milton can get work at 4i. BG is actually pretty valuable in this sense as he can switch alignments from outside/inside pre-snap without being a liability (well, pre-injury at least).

What he really needs is a chance.  Can we get Jeff Gillooly on the phone?

I posted some articles in the UDFA thread with one from CBS sports where he talks about "untapped arm strength" because he wasn't driving off it this year. That's crazy.

After playing through discomfort in 2020, he underwent surgery that inserted cartilage into his knee using a cadaver from his own hip. The surgery typically requires a recovery time of up to 12 months, but Strong returned to the field in only six months to play out the 2021 season.

Carson Strong Injury Update: Nevada quarterback adamant that his knee isn't a concern (profootballnetwork.com)

Carson Strong is getting healthier. Had surgery to correct a high school injury,. Played in 2021 earlier than he should have. Wore a brace. draft stock impacted by injury.

Im not sure we really have details on the extend of the knee injury he had operated on. Not sure on that one. My guess would be no. What QBs have had their careers limited by any ACL injury in recent years? Hes not a runner, and never gonna be. Hes a QB with a little bit of mobility to move around the pocket, even get outside the pocket a little bit. But rarely going to ever take off running. Id guess its going to hold up a good long time.

Id love to hear him and Howie talk about it. Im hoping for another Nakobe Dean type of answer. "Yeah Im good. Im ready to go. Full participant in camp next week."

I wonder if the eagles would actually consider starting strong this year if he has a fantastic camp and preseason and Hurts has just an ok one.

If he can get the knee healthy, and be all he can be, we can add two defensive studs in the first next year, and get a 2nd day pick for Hurts.

Minshew will also have no problem backing up an actual QB with superior arm talent.

I think no. Unfortunately.

But we have seen Smith look frustrated. And if his 100M dollar WR friend starts getting frustrated, maybe money talks.

Let Hurts sink or swim in a full passing offense.  If it is not working, they will not go run heavy, they will go to Strong.

I watched the presser.  Howie qualified that by pointing out that they were acquired in the fall and this would be their first full offseason with the team, just like the players they just drafted.

Hurts will either play well enough to keep the job or he will be replaced.

I think Minshew is a already a better QB than Hurts. Minshew is signed through this year.

My money is on Strong to make the team and eventually replace Hurts. Maybe later this year or before next year.

If for some reason, Hurts could not start a game, Minshew should go in as he is more prepared than Strong at this point.
