I was excited for it when they announced Shane Black was directing and I thought it would be more closer to the original. Instead they try to turn it into some stupid raunchy comedy. I liked Predators a lot too. Probably the second best Predator movie (not counting Prey). I agree with both of you on Predators. I like that one a lot and yes, I enjoyed The Predator even though it has the feel of a movie that the studio forced a hatchet job in editing The tone is definitely different than other Predator movies but is very authentic to Shane Black’s style, which I am a fan of. I think it’s one of those movies that people will come to like more over time as it gets rewatched free from people’s expectations and enjoyed for what it is instead of what it isn’t. I would also love to see a directors cut of the film but doubt anyone is willing to pay for that.

I probably like the one with Adrien Brody more than most. I don't remember much about the AVP movies either. Might just have a to do a full blown Predators tour soon - watch them all I’m 13 minutes into the movie right now and I know I’ve already seen my favorite part. Male hunter sees female hunter sneak up into their hunting trip and says, "Who invited you? We won’t be gone long enough to need someone to cook.” 😂😂
August 7, 20223 yr I doubt anyone was looking forward to it anyway but I watched They/Them. Truly dreadful and not in a good way.

I'm a huge, huge fan of the original, and every sequel since doesn't hold a candle to the tense action and menacing tone of that first one. Some parts of the second one were okay because we got to fully understand the history and purpose of what they were doing on earth, but otherwise it was cheesy and over the top (par for the course for that era). I usually roll my eyes at the fan boys who get all pissy when someone's making a sequel of one of their favorite movies because they think it's gonna tarnish the legacy of the original, but I can almost kinda understand it after all these predator movies have come out. That being said, I agree with you that this is the first sequel that was somewhat faithful to the original, but still limited in what it could deliver. Was entertaining enough but kinda fell flat for me at times. Not a bad movie by any stretch, just a really lofty standard that it has to live up to, that's all. One interesting tidbit towards the end... Spoiler The flint lock pistol and cave drawings during the credits seem to imply a vengeful search party that slaughters her tribe and takes a souvenir that would be handed over to Danny Glover a couple hundred years later.
August 7, 20223 yr "Prey" was definitely worth a watch. Not "oh my god" great, but a fun popcorn movie.

Any fans of the series should definitely check it out. But anyone who hasn't seen the original, really needs to watch that first before watching this. Honestly, it had the potential to be really good with a couple tweaks to the story and cinematography... Spoiler The character arc for her seemed a bit too short and abrupt. Even just the hunting montage where we see her skills improve could've been shot and edited to seem like it took place over a longer period of time. The plot device of the herb being her ace in the hole was wasted when they used it for the reason why he struggled to "see" her. They basically even did the entire set up with the mud hole as the camo tactic but then abandoned it in favor of the herb lowering body temp gimmick. Head scratcher for sure, would've made way more sense for the predator to have stalked nearby while she was in the mud hole and for him to have missed her because of that. The herb could've been used in so many other ways, like heightened sense of smell to better track his position when cloaked, or gives her better night vision, etc. The final kill scene was overly complex and a bit unsatisfying. Not sure why, but I just wish they could've framed it in a different way other than having her guess exactly where his head was going to be when he rises out of the mud hole. Kinda nitpicky, but still a good movie and best sequel to date.
August 12, 20223 yr Author Ok I’m gonna give Suspiria another try. I have literally tried about 5 times but I was distracted each time and I also thought it was boring as F. @Shepard Wong Have you seen this and what are your thoughts? @mikemack8 How many sets of nuts are currently dangling on your chin?

Only one, but I’m listening to the Suspiria soundtrack while doing it! (It’s awesome by the way - the soundtrack, not the nuts. Well the nuts are too)

August 12, 20223 yr Wait. We are talking about the original one, right? I never got around to watching the remake yet. I started it but got interrupted and never went back to it.

I can’t figure out which one is better unless I watch them both. I was talking about the remake in my post.
August 14, 20223 yr Author Rewatching Midsommar right now at 7:20 am on a Sunday morning. No big deal. What a masterpiece this movie is. His use of music/score is incredible. It just builds tension in the face. The face! That part is truly horrifying. I’ve seen this movie multiple times, and I always feel worse for the boyfriend in the beginning before all that happens (she wouldn’t be my first choice for a long term relationship), then when he forgets her birthday in Sweden, I’m thinking……ok bruh. You don’t deserve the worst, but your gonna get it.
August 14, 20223 yr Author I need a good horror movie to fall asleep to tonight in anticipation of a full work week. Quick @mikemack8 @Shepard Wong and @Gannan. Gimme something obscure, NOT OLD (looking at you Shep), and something I may not have seen yet. Good luck gentlemen.

Haven't read it yet, but currently reading another of his, "Heart Shaped Box". It's scary as hell. His writing might be creepier than his father's. Oh, you can tell. It's streaming on Peacock for anyone that hasn't seen it yet. It was pretty good, but had a lot of fluff in there that I didn't think was necessary.

Heart Shaped Box was extremely good, on par with his dad. NOS4A2 was pretty good, but not great. The Fireman was so bad I couldn't finish it.

I read a lot, and it was middling ImO but a solid debut. Did a great job like his dad building the characters, but the story itself and how it progressed was very green. Have been reading his short stories in compilations. Both pretty solid. I think I enjoy Full Throttle more than 20th Century Ghosts. Also odd, Black Phone was like a 14 page short story and honestly kind of dumb, screenwriter and director def deserve credit if it was as good as reviews state. For his short stuff he has a couple great and a lot of good and a few misses, but not many. Would def recommend for fans of the format.
