June 11, 2025Jun 11 You need to win games when Kepler homers and Marsh gets 2 hits, that does not happen often

Meanwhile they sit 9 over last 169 games cause they are 7-0 vs the historically bad Rockies with a +26 run differential

I don't know if it's the sellout crowds or whatever but it feels like they've been much better than a ~.500 team. Obviously not.

Obviously not. It’s honestly because of two things. First last year when they were so good in April and May into the beginning part of June, it made you overlook just how poorly they played after they were in London. Because they were so good in April and May that they could be .500ish baseball team and still win the division and finish 20+ games over. But it’s why you saw the Mets dominate them. Cause the Mets actually were good the majority of the season while the Phillies were mediocre for the last 102 games (51-51).Second, I think because they went on the run in 2022 and then 2023 got so close again that people think that’s still the same team. they haven’t been that team since beginning of June 2024. At some point in time you have to look in the mirror at them and realize they are not the team. They were two and three years ago but they’re not the same team they were in May of last year. Guys have gotten old, guys have not improved and declined and the roster has gotten worse. Dombrowski wasted a lot of resources on marginal players or guys who are past their prime.

June 12, 2025Jun 12 I haven't paid much attention to the Mets other than seeing them constantly winning lately and overtaking the Phils for 1st place in the division. Just looked at their stats though and noticed they have the lowest team ERA in the majors at 2.82 and their starting rotation is awesome... Senga 6-3, 1.59 ERA; Peterson 5-2, 2.49 ERA; Megill 5-4 ,3.76 ERA; Holmes 7-3, 2.95 ERA; Canning 6-2, 3.22 ERA. They make the Phils rotation look like hot garb. I of course hate the Mets but it just feels like they're WAY better than the Phils are at this point in the season in both hitting and pitching.

They got hot during this stretch cause they got the Rockies 6 times and nationals for 3 sandwiched with the dodgers. I believe they’ve also faced the most or second most games against teams under .500. They have a stretch around the trades deadline of at SF for 3, at SD for 3, vs sf for 3, vs Cleveland for 3 and at brewers for 3 that’s 15 games in a row against teams over .500. The Phillies have a chance to catch them during that time if they don’t fall like 7-8 games back during this stretch where they have their toughest of the season.Tbh the Phillies and Mets September both aren’t easy. Phillies have 19 of 25 games against teams currently at or above .500 and Mets 16 of 25. Mets is slightly easier so I tend to think they win the division
June 12, 2025Jun 12 I hate people like this. It was never about keeping O‘Hoppe. That was never happening with Jt on the roster. The issue is maximizing the value of the asset you had. He was a top 100 prospect. He was a top 75 prospect who played a position of catcher and could hit which is rare in mlb right now. So you had a very valuable asset. So when you made that trade, you should have maximize the value. If you go look in the last 5 years in MLB trades with top 100 prospects and the value those teams got back for them, they are better than Brandon marsh. The fact that the angels a year and a half after he was their top prospect, they were willing to move him. Should have been a red flag. They also put out there they didn’t think he was going to be a center fielder long term and the Philly still thought he was and he’s not. So essentially you traded one of your best trade assets at that period of time for a platoon/fourth outfielder that you were going to have to fix his problems to get him to be an everyday player. You should’ve been trading that valuable asset for a proven everyday outfielder. Because you wouldn’t have issues at LF and CF if you did
June 12, 2025Jun 12 I actually wouldn't mind seeing them try to trade for Andrew McCutchen. He's having a solid year and would give them a veteran RH bat who still plays decent defense. Statistically, he's be their top outfielder right now

Yes, just because JT's offensive production has been terrible. But regardless trading O'Hoppe for Marsh was a bad trade. Marsh is just not good and arguably not an MLB player.

I would say he’s a fourth outfielder or at best platoon left fielder. the issue is you’re not trading a top 100 prospect for a platoon or fourth outfielder. If everyone would’ve known he’d be become that (i said it was a bad trade then) nobody’s making that trade. It’s why it’s stupid when people are ohoppe isn’t that good. It doesn’t matter what a he is for the rest of his career. If he goes on to be a Hall of Famer it just looks even worse and if he sucks most people will forget it. but the fact that you should’ve maximize value at the time of the trade. The one thing I give Amaro credit for, is when he traded our top ranked prospects he got legitimate MLB players back. For all his flaws, he got Cliff Lee, Roy halladay, Roy Oswalt and Hunter Pence for top prospects. Most of those prospects never panned out, but even if they did, you were definitively getting something good for giving up something of max asset value.
