If they continue to slide, I think you look to clean house as much as possible. Bohm, JT, Casty, Kepler, Walker and Ranger all traded. Retain salary if needed on Walker and Casty. You would net some decent prospects and/or MLB depth and create lots of salary flexibility going into next offseason.

Platoon Kemp and Sosa at third. Crawford, Able and Painter all get full time starter roles in the second half of the season.

I’d also consider unloading Schwarber if the price is right.

Tbh if the wheels completely fall off they really should go to wheeler and ask if he wants to stay his last 2.5 years in a mini rebuild next year or two or does he want to compete for a title elsewhere. They’d get a nice package for him and schwarber. If they deal wheeler, I’d probably try signing Ranger. Basically would have Sanchez, painter, Abel along with a possibly declining nola. Could use Ranger. He’s 29. As long as they don’t give him 6-7 years he should be fine.

I don’t disagree with Wheeler and Ranger, but I don’t think management would be up to it as it would hurt tickets sales, optics of them competing next year, etc.

I don’t disagree with you. they won’t do it for exactly what you said. I think they should do it because I think they owe it to Wheeler that he gets to compete for a championship if you’re not going to. that also requires the Phillies actually look in the mirror and realize they aren’t this or next year. Which i don’t think they’ll admit that.

Frankly, the other issue with trading Zach Wheeler is I don’t think he wants to go across the country. So you have to trade him somewhere near Philadelphia and a contender. And the only two teams really competing are the Mets And the Yankees. And I don’t see the Phillies trading him to the Mets. And I don’t know if he wants to pitch for the Yankees. Maybe he’s fine with tigers or Chicago cause i definitely could see both of those teams would be willing to go all in on wheeler to go with those rotations

Hes from Georgia I believe.

Yep - read a report that said that Schwarber is going to test the market, so he's probably not coming back. Package him with Wheeler and get a haul.

I don’t think he wants to move his wife and kids away from the Philly area. Even if it’s Georgia, Braves are more out of it than us. Only team in that southern region in it is Tampa bay. I doubt they are doing a wheeler trade

Well we scored our 1 run for the game. Job well done boys!

Poor wheeler he’s not gonna get the win as the Phillies won’t score again and the bullpen isn’t holding a 1 run lead

I’m all on board for firing Long at this point. There needs to be a better message to the offense. This has gone on long enough and nothing is changing. Bring someone else in and see what happens. I mean it can’t get any worse than it already is. Just do something

Here's my question for everyone. The following are the types of assets the Phillies could (theoretically, at least) add at the trade deadline, irrespective of how feasible it may be:

1. Elite MLB outfield bat, reliable all-star

2. Quality MLB outfield bat. Improvement over what we have, but not a true middle of the order stud.

3. Elite plug-and-play high leverage bullpen arm with ~1 year of control.

4. Quality moderate to high leverage bullpen arm, clearly helps, but not a lock down guy.

5. Elite top 10-15 type AAA/AA prospect, outfield bat with pop.

6. Quality top 50 type AAA/AA outfield bat

On the other side of that coin, we have Luzardo, Nola, Suarez, Painter, Abel, Crawford, Miller. For each of those 7 theoretically trade-able assets we have, list what return assets you would be willing to unload each of them for.

I'll go:

Luzardo: 1, 5. Not getting either. So basically saying hold.

Nola: 1/2/3/4/5/6. Trade for any of them.

Suarez: love the guy, but he's going for nothing soon. 1/2/3/5. Maybe also a 4+6 would be most attainable.

Painter: Maybe 1, maybe 5 and change in the right theoretical scenario.

Abel: 1/5 (obviously not getting either). I don't like trading a 23 year old with elite stuff for a bullpen arm or a marginal lineup upgrade. Feels short sighted So I'd want a pretty high end outfield prospect. Something between 5 and 6.

Crawford: 1/3/5. I suppose one might say that he is #6, although I think he's just outside of the top 50. I'm just not a fan of his profile as a hitter.

Miller: 1/5 (because 5 is better than the level of prospect he is at the moment).

I understand the bullpen needs help, but I really don't like the idea of trading any of those assets for a mere bullpen arm, both because I don't think the team is only a bullpen arm away and because I think it really isn't good return. Crawford is the one exception and that's because I have a disproportionately lower opinion of him than everyone else. I wouldn't mind digging deeper into their bag of prospects to bring in a bullpen arm, but you also get what you pay for. It wouldn't be a high leverage return.

He should’ve been fired last offseason. The team needed a wake up call and something to shake things up. Instead they brought him back cause Thomson likes him and so does Harper. Should’ve done it and made guys realize they got him fired by not improving and additionally get a new approach to see if long was a big reason then they want to admit.

Luzardo— 1,3,5. If they got a guy like mason miller I’d make that trade. I’d need to know the BP arm in making that. Luzardo only has one year left on his deal and who knows if he was first two months Luzardo or last two starts or something in the middle

Nola— I’d deal him for any of them just to get off the contract. I don’t want to be paying him another 5 years. I’d actually look to see if the orioles or Red Sox would want to deal for him.

Ranger— I’d try to extend him first. But if i could get 1,3,5. 6 I’d consider dealing him depending on where we stand at the deadline and not able to get him extended

Painter— not dealing him. Not going to get a prospect close to his upside and if you deal him for an elite bat then you are gonna have a massive hole in 3 years when wheeler is gone, Ranger is gone, Nola stinks and Sanchez is older. And who knows if Abel is traded or not

Abel— 1, 3. Like Luzardo id deal him for an elite bullpen arm like miller. Again really depends on who’s the elite BP arm. I’d consider 5 depending on the prospect. I really like a rotation of painter, Sanchez and Abel going forward

Crawford— 1,3,5. I'd have included 6 but he’s basically what 6 is. So better going with what you got then the unknown from another organization.

The Phillies having base running issues dating all the way back to when kapler was manager

My wife laughed out loud at Casty trying to stretch that into a double. That’s the level of discourse right now with the Phillies.

Marsh sucks and Thomson is an idiot for not bunting kemp over into scoring position with Rojas/kepler and Turner coming up and 1 out

2 runs on 12 hits. That’s unheard of even the bad teams score more runs with those hits

JFC bunt the Fing runners over with Bohm. You need just one run. Just pray casty or jt came through. Holy crap your offense sucks play small ball

Pathetic

bringing in our worst reliever in the 11th after Romano threw 7 pitches in the 10th lol

They finally bunted. Thank god.
