even after the wins against the mets before the astros series, even before the season started, my thoughts was always this

Ive said this before since London last year they’ll get hot for 10 games then get ice cold for next 10 games. There’s no get hot for 10. Then be .500 for 2 weeks then hot again. It’s always either red hot or ice cold. there’s no inbetween

The consistency is what ends seasons for them. Their lineup is worse this year than it has been for a few years, but even in better years...they'll blow the doors off a quality team in the post season with relentless hitting barrages but then score 1 run per game for 3 consecutive games as they drop a series.

It'll be the same story this year. They'll forget how to hit and will get quietly eliminated. Maybe it happens in the first series, maybe the 2nd. But a cold streak that pisses away 3 games hits them once every 2-3 weeks, so you can't navigate through October with that.

The hitting consistency has been a subjective problem for years. But now they have an objective problem, which is a lineup with no power outside of 1 guy and no truly good bats outside of 4-5 guys. THey just need more guys that can hit and don't have the resources to acquire them or the prospects ready to produce them. They aren't alone with this problem.

It’s from this year. But he was willing to go back to OF for Pete Alonso. Which is someone they should’ve done. Frankly they should go after someone like Suarez who plays 3b and move Bohm to first and Harper to LF. It solves some of the issue cause Suarez already has 25 homers and 67 rbi. He’s what they need between Harper and schwarber. They still have issues but it makes guys like Bohm, Castellanos, Stott and even realmuto slotted into the right spot in the order

They have the prospects to trade to get them. Believe this is Middleton doesn’t want to deal them and then be left with rubble when this run is over like they were after 2011

His slashes since May 1: .179/.270/.636. Also has 36 Ks in 140 ABs

Stott also complained about not being able to get in a rhythm and I think he has a point.

He hit well against lefties in 2023 and had his best overall season.

That's 3 players who publicly complained about the manager's decisions...

They tried to make him an every day player. Basically played and stared 80% of their games. He got worse from April to May.

April: .238/.319/.676

May: .188/.275/.650

At some point in time when you are getting worse as the season is going on,you have to make a decision that he is not an everyday player anymore. Just like marsh got demoted on a "rehab” assignment as he was awful for an entire month

Let me go into this while he actually hits better against LHP for average it’s .222 vs .205. However he’s significantly worse with OPS and OBP. He has a .266 OBP and .621 OPS vs. LHP. And .309 and .697 vs. RHP.

If we’re gonna make excuses for Kepler, where is your excuse for Rojas? Because when marsh went to the minors and he was playing every day, he was hitting better than Kepler. And when marsh came back, he became a platoon player and not hitting at all. The fact that Kepler got two months from end March to end of May where he hit .220 yet couldn’t wrestle the everyday LF job away from a platoon with Wilson, kemp (thrown into the of cause they needed him vs. LHP) falls on the dude making $10 mil that has been worse than whit Merrifield the last 2 months outside of a week

Also 2023 and 2024 he was basically not starting nearly as much against LHP. In 2023 and 2024 he had 88 AB and 77 AB against LHp whereas he had 350 AB and 291 AB vs. RHP. I’d point out he’s on pace to have his most ABs vs. LHP since 2022. some of that is injuries but until lately he was going to have more ABs vs. LHP then the last two years.

Also he hasn’t had 500 at bats in a season since 2019. He’s on pace to have his most since 2019. From start of the year through May he played 52 of 58 games (90%) after that they started platooning him. Through May he was on pace for 488 At bats and 145 games. it could just be the realized he was progressively getting worse each month and wouldn’t hold up the entire year cause he hadn’t played 140+ games since 2018.

Kepler: .209/.300/.383/.683

Merrifield (53 games with Phillies): .199/.277/.295/.572

Kepler has more power but really if you look since May 1 Kepler’s avg and OBP is worse than Merrifield: .179/.270/.364/.635

Essentially you are getting slightly more powerful version of Merrifield since May

I’d add Kepler is hitting in the middle of the lineup whereas Merrifield was at the bottom most nights so he’s getting better protection in the lineup.

🤣

Then when you realize somehow Rojas is better vs. LHP then Kepler it’s even funnier that Kepler opened his mouth.

Rojas vs. LHP (56 ABs): .232/.283/.623 (per espn)

Kepler va. LHP (45 ABs): .222/.265/.621 (per espn)

He was the one who came up with the Stump The Fans questions.

Guys not swinging at the ball is our best offense with the bases loaded.

5 runs o

Way to go Otto!!! I Fin hate this offense. This team pisses me off. Of course you score 8 runs no problem. Meanwhile Dave in the background smiling not getting a bat now for sure

Wish he had a higher avg and OBP but adell makes sense cause he has pop and plays CF. Plus Phillies have made a bunch of trades with the angels in recent years.

Realistically, who do you think Dave is going to get at the deadline? Some bullpen arm that’s a 4.3era and a bench bat maybe? I don’t see this guy doing anything major at all

I actually think he’ll get a solid bullpen arm. Estevez was that last year. I really don’t trust him to get the RH bat as we’ve needed it since Rhys got hurt. However I’m not sure I’d consider adell major addition. I’d think a major addition would’ve been someone like Kyle Tucker
