Yeah, E45 is way off here. Maybe in other businesses he’s spot on but not this one. This is a fireable offense 100 percent of the time with any news organization that values credibility.

What news org these days values credibility though? None of them really 🤣

Semi joking

I still can't fathom them drafting anything on defense in the 1st round. The cap is so lopsided to an overpaid offense and insanely cheap and young defense that I feel like you almost have to get younger with offensive talent now.

They will. But it doesn't have to be by forcing a 1st round pick when the talent is not there.

It's weird that Safety is probably 2nd or 3rd least valued position and 3 of them can could potentially go in the top 25. Wondering if Thieneman or Downs falls more than anticipated. That said my guess is we go Jalon Kilgore at pick 68

I don’t really have enough dogs in this fight to continue it, but I’m curious how many legal meetings you had to sit in reviewing the exposure of those hirings and firings including the downstream lawsuits. HR is just the messenger.

I haven’t sat in on a single one. I’m not sure how relevant that is in this case.

I swear I was trying to sneak one in there, but I had limited time and choked under pressure. @mikemack8 take "Sadiq" to the chinstrap on a daily basis!

I just want to have enough ammunition to trade up for LaArchidad Mannorbliss next year.

Push for tampering investigation if the Pats don't agree to a 1st and a day 2 pick when the trade goes down in June.

Considering that’s who makes these decisions…

Im afraid Kilgore will disappoint. He looks like a nice do it all safety. But something is lacking and I think it is physicality.

Hes on my list. But I feel that the downgrade form the first 3 to him is pretty significant. I like Stukes and Carson better but theyre both so freaking old...

Safeties always seem to fall. Wouldn’t be shocking at all if Thieneman or EMW fall to round 2, or even if Downs goes after 10.

Last year Jihaad Campbell fell because of his postional value and injury concerns. I think McNeill-Warren's shoulder may take him off some team's boards. Thieneman also wasn't some consensus first round pick prior to the combine. I also think teams will talk themselves into some of the more marginal o-line prospects. It would not surprise me if both Thieneman and McNeill-Warren were available in the 2nd.

My entire point is that, across every industry, any high profile firing, coerced resignation, or controversial retention centered on professional misconduct…is going to be based on a risk and liability assessment of all options from legal counsel and PR experts….journalistic credibility, job performance, etc are of secondary concern.

I’m sorry, but your experience or thoughts on this do not in fact transcend all industries. Her contract was up in June. She was being investigated. Then, after the surface level investigation showed some concerning details she was suspended pending the results of this investigation. She resigned, very likely because she thought if she no longer was an employee that this would go away.

You think they needed lawyers for this? They could have simply rode out this investigation until her contract was up and let her walk.

You’re overthinking this.

I do think job performance plays a role because it's an economic decision. I think that's the first consideration, the economic impact on the business for keeping the employee. I think the legal consideration isn't just about the consequences of the conduct but also about the consequences of the discipline for the conduct. If other journalists had kept their jobs after similar affairs with married news sources, I think that makes a termination of Russini more likely to subject them to a potential claim. At the same time, keeping Russini makes it that much harder to terminate someone down the road. My guess is they had a negotiated settlement where she was allowed to tender her resignation in exchange for a severance and release.

There is absolutely zero chance that a legal team was not involved in this. Your experience in journalism does not extend into what ultimately was not a "journalism" decision.

She resigned because it was the smart thing to do...her only chance to get back in the game is to take it on the chin, get under the radar, and hope that she can be hire-able again some day. And if she can't get back in the game, it's an absolute certainty that she'll retain legal counsel, if she hasn't already, to evaluate her ability to monetize a situation in which a female NFL reporter was forced to resign for a relationship with a male head coach who had no consequences (different employer). And I would imagine the athletic has a strong, defensible policy involving source relationships (which never stops someone from trying). But there's zero chance the Athletic did not evaluate their exposure in letting her go.

I think that happens with drafting a safety and Edge, maybe a corner or other position they like for depth and future development. Just probably not in the first couple rounds.

Actions speak louder than words. I appreciate and really like what he had to say with taking BPA basically but he needs to follow through. I'm taking a wait and see approach there.

Me too. I keep seeing people mocking guys like Miller, Lomu, and Iheanachor to them and it's kind of gross. At least Lomu has some upside and Iheanachor seems to have a lot, but I still think in most years they are an early to mid 2nd round pick. Blake Miller is the safest, most boring, low upside pick I can think of. There is literally nothing about him that I can sell myself on. I look at Freeling and the buzz he is getting as a potential top 10 guy and it kind of just goes to show how much the OL are being overrated in what looks like a weak class. Most years Freeling would be a guy who would be decent at 23 (not even a home run pick) and it looks damn near impossible he makes it out of the top 15, let alone all the way to 23. The alternatives aren't great either with someone like EMW, Faulk, Parker, Boston, etc. I would love to see them trade down but I just don't see other teams wanting to trade up that bad. This draft just kind of sucks.
