But I do think this is a year for Hurts to cement whether he's going to be long-term or not. I think because they like him and he's won for them, it would take a lot to get benched. I thought he might get benched in a game or 2 last year. I think if the team is winning it will be like the last 2 years, keep plugging away. If the team is losing and the season appears over then I could see changing QB to see if that makes a difference in evaluating the decision going forward. So it would have to be a disaster season with like 4 wins. There are other factors too. Did they start slow and then start doing better? Do they have injuries to use as excuse?

I don't think there's any other 2026 QB option on the roster, so I don't see a real purpose in benching Hurts to see if Andy Dalton can save the season. I don't think McKee is in the Eagles long term plans -- he'll play out this season and move on, or Howie will trade him at or before the trade deadline to a team needing QB depth. He's not getting a starting job anywhere at this point. Payton likely needs two years of development before the Eagles put him on the field where winning and losing makes a huge difference.

True but I guess the only reason to bench Hurts - again if the season is lost - would be to see if a different type of QB can run the offense, showing a blueprint. Like if they want to go draft someone who isn't a dual threat runner as much and try Dalton or McKee. A lot of fans think Hurts sucks so bad and is the worst passer and can't admit he does anything well at all, so for them they think almost anyone can step in and be a better passer than he is with these weapons and run game. The coaches don't believe that, and I think it would take a lot to bench Hurts but just for the sake of discussion that's a potential - albeit unlikely - scenario. Vikas is probably right, if they do move on from Hurts they'd want to see him play the whole season to evaluate. And if they move on, bring in someone new.

Funny how I read here last season that Tanner Brady was gonna save this team and was the heir apparent and now he's QB3. Although, I think it's only temporary because I think that Dalton is probably a washed up scrub who hasnt played a meaningful game in several years. But he knows the offense and here to be a teacher primarily. Said all along, Tanner Brady had too small a sample size with a meaningless late season showing vs the Minor League New York Football Giants and to take that with a grain of salt. Peeps never learn. It was him. It was Carson Strong. Who's the next victim?

I don't think I've ever seen an underwhelming at the time hire jump to some offensive guru with a masterful scheme with the only thing done in between of note is 1 press conference, faster than Sean Mannion.

Many such cases. This is the copium cycle.

Your first reaction to the signing/trade/hiring/etc is usually the most accurate. Then if first feeling is you dislike it or are unmoved by it, find a way in the coming days to talk yourself into it being really good. This is a defensive mechanism to try and preserve the feeling of hope going into the season. Then as the weeks and months progress, take any morsel or anecdote to talk yourself into it even more. Even if it's just a clip of a player going "He's really smart"(btw players once called Chip Kelly a genius). Then by the beginning of the seasons the expectations are so askew that you're just asking to be disappointed.

I remember this happened with DeSean Jackson being cut. On the surface is was one of the dumbest most inexplicable moves in sports history. Cutting one of the best WRs in Eagles history in his 20s who was the best big play threat in football over essentially nothing but the head coach's ego not being able to handle that some players need a little more leeway than others when it comes to stuff. As has been the case in sports since the beginning of time. DeSean is cut, people are rightfully pissed, then within 24 hours the narrative starts to shift to "Well, actually.... now that we got this cancer off the team Chip Kelly can finally incorporate all the things he wants to be successful... have fun with the Redskins loser!" And by 2014 season everyone talked themselves into being better without him. Turns out it didn't work out so well lol. And that and the McCoy moves ultimately got him fired.

And btw we are seeing another version of this, this offseason with Stoutland being gone. Already have seen several posters on here act like now all of a sudden he wasn't that instrumental for the team's success, but I'll save that for another time.

Maybe Mannion will end up being great, but with the offensive personnel largely the same(sans changes at WR) the one thing people have to cling to when it comes to digging deep for hope for the upcoming season is Mannion because he's the one major change. I hope he is, but most OCs are not amazing. There are a few elite ones. There are a handful of really terrible ones. And others are kind of the same. People are setting themselves up here to be letdown, but I guess that is part of being a fan!

Looking like Howie found one in Woolen. #TheRealDeal. If so, Vic can let the corners cover and move the other guys around to pressure. Like a few years ago. If we up our pressure too, then things get interesting. Deja vu.

The theory in here is that anything is better than Kevin Patullo. The guy was clueless and was in over his head, while having enough talent to make last year's offense at least functional. And he did not. Add to that, is the additional depth signings and expected incremental minimal progress at C and LG and a healthy Lane Johnson and its easy to have real optimism here. I see Mannion set up to succeed. Of course he may take some lumps as any first time OC does, but there will be enough good here to grow this offense during the course of the season and see his value.

It's just different vibes and energy this season. And with the toxic diva out, guys now see real opportunity and a path to a significant role here, when it was clearly denied in the past in the passing game, if your name wasn't AJ Brown or Devanta Smith. The team unity will be off the charts here. You deduct Patullo and AJ and that's what you have before you even did anything else. The dysfunctionality element has been eliminated. I'm pretty sure that's how Howie saw it.

I think people are just thrilled with something different lol
