I'm greedy. I need a known quantity to be at one of the safety positions. 2 unknowns right now. Could work out with Makuba. I see Epps strictly as 3rd safety and Carter as a wildcard, but a likely dime player. I think Howies one flub was not getting EMW when he fell. And to a lesser extent, there were roughly 5 solid safeties out there in free agency to pick from that came in at about $6M or less on a 1 year deal that he could have jumped on. To be an ELITE group, I'd like to add one solid vet safety who was a full time starter previously.

This. I am cautiously optimistic because of the feedback from some of the players, but that press conference is all we got. We have no idea if this scheme will be effective, especially with Hurts at QB.

Mannion wasn't a "big name" on anyone's radar heading into this offseason. I think the early reports were fair: noting his limited coaching experience, but the perception of him is a bright mind who is an up and coming coach, thought of to be a good future head coach candidate. He has never called plays so will have to learn that part as well.

A SB team should have an OC with experience. Hiring Fangio was great, he knows what he's doing. Steichen and Moore had play calling experience. So we'll see how this goes. They believe he will bring innovation, creativity and be able to install the McVay/Shanahan style they want. Plus, they hired Grizzard who does have more experience to help the coaching. So even if Mannion or Grizzard were hired elsewhere, the other remains and they spent a year working together and learning from each other.

Plus you're inserting the OC to an experienced team with a HC who has made the playoffs 5 years in a row and functions well as the CEO coach running the overall team, not the offense. On paper, it should work. The players have a lot of positive comments so far. But it's OTAs. We'll just have to see it on the field in August and September to start to see it come together.

I think it's the hope that he couldn't possibly be worse than Patullo, along with the comments from players (contrasting statements about Patullo, especially from Jalen, with comments on Mannion is encouraging).

Will it work? Is Mannion actually good? No one knows. But we know the last guy was a train wreck, so change of any sort will breed optimism.

Vic seems cool with what we've got. Mukuba definitely has ball skills to go along with our corners. Add in the LB's who can cover and the middle of the field is a minefield. As per before, roster is strong and we are definite contenders. Now we have to deal with the Rams who one-upped us and added Wolverine. He will be a handful.

At that lunch/Horse thing back in 2024, Nick asked me and my dad what our first thought was when the Eagles hired him. I said - "who the hell is Nick Sirianni." Told him I had to Google him. He did laugh at least.

Having optimism is fine. Penciling him in as an offensive upgrade or even more--as a good OC--that's another thing entirely. That's fine too if people wanna do that, they can do whatever they want, but to LGM's point, it is fascinating how far the legend of Mannion has grown without even calling a single game. Not even a preseason game.

There's more hype around Mannion with fans than there is with Lemon and Lemon accomplished way more as a collegiate player than Mannion ever did as a coach.

The thing is we just really have no idea how much most coordinators are responsible. Everyone has and will continue to blame Patullo for everything last year. Whether he was or wasn't because it's convenient. I remember once upon a time with Reich and Sirianni the Colts offense was good, then Sirianni left and it declined and I saw a handful of Colts beat guys going "Colts offense doesn't look so great without Sirianni does it... maybe he's not the idiot everyone thought he was." Then everyone thought Sirianni was some really smart offensive mind... until he lost Steichen. So no one knows. And if the offense sucks again this year we still won't know how much of it is Mannion. It could be the QB, it could be the OL, it could be difficulty transitioning to a new scheme.

People talk with so much certainty when it comes to coordinators, almost as much as they do with players and I think it's a lot more complicated.

I think they are still evaluating safety and tinkering. Kinda like they did with CB2 last year. Eventually Adoree was serviceable, but took awhile to get there and Fangio found a way to utilize him and kinda hide him. If there's a chance to add there before the season, he should.

CJGJ was added at the conclusion of TC in 2022. They'll see what they have in camp and add if deemed necessary, IMO.
