Because even when you're developing a team, you want to be competitive, really bad teams have a tendency to be bad forever, because it's not a conducive environment for player development.

This is so obvious it’s hard to believe you had to say it.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

A rookie RT that had played the whole season.

Continuity is key.

I realize your a bucs fan which is still odd but hey to each their own and I think most would agree KC wasnt at full capacity in that super bowl and as such were at a distinct disadvantage from the get go and had an up hill battle not to mention what Reid was going through again with his son and a coach getting a dui.

Might seem like a small thing but I go back to the falcons super bowl in 98.

Their starting safety and team captain gets busted by an under cover cop for soliciting prostitution and it threw the whole team off and they didn't have a ton of injuries including to their starting qb like KC do to over come

Sure they sound like excuses and now body on the chiefs is going to use them as such but come on now let's not pretend the bucs were some other worldly team and that KC didn't have a lot going against them.

If KC is healthy and without off field distractions id bet 9 times out of 10 KC wins that game.

Yep.  I’m not saying this as an infantile "they got lucky” criticism of the Bucs.  The earned the SB, good for them, full bragging rights.

But for the purposes of imitating a blueprint...they got lucky.  They had a battered and distracted Chiefs team that would normally blow their doors off...that result is no argument to over-invest in a 4-3 off ball LB.  They got the worst playoff team in nfl history round 1.  Then they got a Saints team with a non viable qb past his expiration date.  They did beat the Packers, but it helps when you face 2 consecutive terms without their LT.

Again, Bucs won fair and square...but any team that tries to follow their path to the SB is going to be left very, very disappointed.

Iowa State safety Lawrence White IV, 6-0, 196 pounds. 214 career tackles, 3 INTs and 8 PBUs. Experienced leader. 4.51 in the 40, 6.98 three-cone and a 4.21 short shuttle at his Pro Day. White has met virtually with the #Cowboys, #Colts, #Eagles, #Falcons, #Vikings and #Raiders.

Their path ? You mean having a talented team

that is how you win , they stay healthy and they should make a run again

But you see how that’s counter to not caring about how a first-round pick performs in year 1, right? That’s the point, and it was so obvious you didn’t need to say this.

Eagles are rebuilding, that means you don't really care what a player can do in 2021, rather, whether that player is a potential building block for 2023 and forward.

The next two years are about adding and developing talent, not winning, winning will be a byproduct of successful player development.

So the draft board should reflect that reality, and Howie should "Trust the Board."

Good luck dividing that echo chamber.

A thought about our predicament in the QB discourse is how many of the elite QBs actually win Super Bowls at the zenith of their careers. Seems like over the last 2 decades or so, these great QBs win SBs prior to them actually achieving their elite status.

Good luck outscoring them when they have Pitts.  Cowboys getting Pitts is not a good outcome.  Unfortunately since Howie traded back we are very likely to see both the Cowboys and Giants draft a player better than us in the 1st.

Been saying this for a while on here now only to get the response who cares what Dallas or NYG does...just worry about the Eagles.  Sorry, I'm very worried when our division rivals are drafting better players than us.  We FINALLY had the advantage of drafting ahead of them only to trade back.

Pitts on the Cowboys is bad news.  It lets them not have to worry about overpaying for Gallup next year as well.

Bucs were so much better than the Chiefs that day, I don’t think you can point to the off field stuff as the reason for their victory.

And as for copying what the Bucs did: it’s is almost impossible. They had the best QB in history playing on a reasonable contract on a team that had spent the last decade drafting in the top 10. THAT is something you can’t imitate.

That's because they can't afford to put a good team around then when they are further in their careers because of how much they make.

It’s dumb to point to any single Super Bowl and treat it like it’s the end all be all to building a SB-winning team. There are a lot of different ways to win one.

Yep. It’s why I think NFL teams have suddenly become more comfortable offloading QBs: they probably feel like they increase their odds of winning SBs by doing so.

And that’s why I am okay with where we are: the stats say even if Wentz pulled his head out of his butt, his Super Bowl window had likely closed. The fact that we even won a SB with him was truly miraculous given the amount of draft picks we sacrificed. It should have been a logically counter productive move.

My hope here is that either Hurts is excellent and we can use our draft picks next year to load up on cheap talent or he is terrible and we only have to use one draft pick on a QB (or I guess alternatively the Colts/Dolphins are terrible).

I mean, to be clear, if it was possible to imitate, the Bucs scenario is literally what everyone wants.

Wait until a 45-year-old QB hits the market and hope to God he isn’t washed? I guess.

The hope is they become top 5 elite and they keep them in contention untill they build around them again good enough to make another run.

Honestly , IMO Bucs don’t win that Super bowl last year with any other QB , but Brady

what he did ,coming into a new system , no pre season games , and to change culture of a perennial loser , AB , Gronk , Fournette don’t go there without Brady , he got the whole team inline , not to mention he takes less money , so team can sign others

are the Giants locking in on Devonta Smith? they’re "enamored” with the WR per

I sincerely hope not. That kid is going to be really, really good

Him and Sterns are my 2 fav , Johnson will be a steal , play him all over the secondary

Jamar Johnson on 34 coverage snaps vs Justin Fields & Ohio State last season:

Targets: 2

Catches allowed: 0

INTs: 2

#2 safety in the Draft

Obviously. But it’s not so easy dealing with lower than average cap space and lower than average draft positions.

They’ll get their run at some point but will probably end up facing a team with a younger/cheaper QB with a more talented surrounding team.

The other alternative I was thinking about is to do what we unintentionally did in 2017: go all in with your top 5 elite QB with a 2-year window in mind and see if you can win one (with the full understand that you’ll be absolutely crap after the 2 years is up). Why the Packers haven’t tried this is bizarre to me. Same with the Seahawks (although an argument can me made that they tried and have just failed miserably at executing).

How are we going to feel when the Cowboys add Pitts at 10 to Cooper, Lamb and Gallup and the Giants at 11 add Smith to Shepard, Slayton, Galloday and Ingram and then the Eagles take Kwitty Paye at 12.

Won't bother me, loading your team with WRs while.the rest of your team falls apart is idiotic

I would be more concerned with Skins adding weapons , they have the D , not sure about that QB situation though

Our team has already fallen apart. Best fix it by drafting an average DE.
