EMB Blog: 2023 Regular Season thru Week 9 - NO POLITICS

Featured Replies

Good morning to all.  I hope it was a good night for everyone.  As long as the last number on the season record is a zero, I will be happy.  Now on to a recap of the weekly predictions.

The final score of 34-31 eluded us all.  The closest anyone was was within 6 points of the 65 total, and @Casey @ Bat with a prediction of a 35-24 Eagles win was that closest predictor.  Not a single predictor was over the 65. @MillerTime was within 7 points at 38-20 and @bpac55 was within 9 points at 42-14.

So form the first four games the chicken dinner has gone to:
@Alphagrand in Week One
@Iggles25 and @bbabraham in Week Two
@Cliftoma in Week Three and
@Casey @ Bat in Week Four

The Bonus pick results this week had the following winners
@Cochis_Calhoun with the double hit on "300 yds Passing for Hurts  Over 4 sacks for the Defense"
@Parrot Head with "Eagles don't turn the ball over"
@Ace Nova with "Eagles get at least 5 sacks"
@EagleJoe8 with "Hurts has at least 1 TD pass of 50 or more yards"
@Captain F with "AJ Brown gets 2TDs"
@B3 with "AJ Brown 2 TDs"
@jwill2420 with "TD for AJ Brown"
@eagle45 with "AJ Brown TD"
@Outlaw with "Haason Reddick gets his 1st sack"
@hputenis with "Hassan Redick has his 1st sack"
@BigEFly with "Reddick with cast off gets a sack"
@DrPhilly with "Reddick gets a sack"
@Swoop with "Reddick gets a sack"
and
@FranklinFldEBUpper with "Penny doesn't dress and Eagles fans lose their minds"

also @NCTANK gets an honorable mention with "Jake nails game winner in final minute"

Frank Perdue sends his Congratulations to all the winners!

Why yes, I do suck at this and thank you for asking!

The 49ers have been remarkably healthy through 4 weeks. Basically playing with all of their starters (like us last year). Dallas on the other hand has been dealing with OL issues + loss of Diggs. You can see them battling.

We're not going to be the #1 seed (just compare our schedule to SF, we'd have to beat two of Miami/Buffalo/KC, drop one to Dallas AND beat SF), so it's just about getting to the playoffs healthy. There is no NFC QB that scares me, so there's hope.

Snap Counts are in ... here are the Offensive snaps.  Calcatera with only 1 snap seems to bode well for an Albert O activation this week.

Here are the Defensive snaps

I understand they’re trying to help Hurts become more comfortable as a pocket passer but it doesn’t need to be one or the other.  It’s evident he’s much more conservative running the ball this year (at times too conservative).

They really just need to let him play.   Mahomes was running all over the field last night - if he hadn’t, good chance the Chiefs lose that game.  Like I said, it doesn’t need be one or the other.    Let Jalen play.

They're 4-0. This is the time of year to live with Hurt's growing pains in the pocket.

The RO is always there, but the better Hurts is as a pocket passer, the harder the Eagles will be to defend.

I think the NFL is a 6 horse race this year.

Chiefs.  The defending champs with a GOAT QB.  They are probably going to upgrade WR at the deadline and will once again be the scariest team in the league heading into the playoffs.

Bills.  Consistency is an issue.  Trusting them in the playoffs will be an issue, specifically a defense that typically comes up small on that stage.  But their win against Miami was the strongest statement any team in the NFL has made so far this year.  Their peaks have been the most dominant of any team in the NFL.

SF.  Undefeated and, over 4 weeks, playing the best football in the NFL.

Eagles.  Of the elite 6, the Eagles have played the worst football through 4 weeks.  No doubt about it.  And yet...we are one of 2 unbeatens at 4-0.  I'm inclined to say the Eagles are the most talented out of all of them, but the multitude of holes on defense makes me question that now.

Miami.  Just got sent back to earth, but that offense is still terrifying.

Dallas.  Bringing up the rear of the top 6.  No one really trusts them in the playoffs.  I just don't see the same upside for this team on offense as the other elites.  But their well distributed talent on offense and tenacious defense deservedly put them in this conversation.

I see the Eagles dropping the NFCCG to SF after an exhausting, emotional divisional win over Dallas.  Buffalo comes up short to Miami in a revenge playoff game.  Tua isn't ready to outgun Mahomes in the playoffs.  Mahomes and Taylor Swift repeat in the SB over SF.  And everyone involved makes an insane amount of money.

Chiefs are just as inconsistent/playing the worst football as us on this list.  Both teams have a lot of figuring out to do.

I also said Reddick sack

Morrow is PFF's #2 rated LB through 4 weeks apparently.

Last year showed he's pretty damn good in the pocket too. Just haven't got back to that yet

I had changed my bonus prediction to Hurts having a TD pass of 50 yards or more. He had a 59 yarder to AJ.

San Fran has been beating up on bad teams and were run closer than it looked by Arizona and awfully close by a Rams offense that is basically Stafford and Nacua with Kyren Wilson to punch it in. It'll be interesting to see how close Dallas get to them.

the final drive in regulation yesterday were situations where you don't play bend by don't break, you play uber aggressive, and if you are going to get beat, you are going to get beaten quickly... giving the ball back to your offense with enough time to answer.    This is EXTREMELY important for the future as the playoffs can often come down to a situation of 'last team with the ball wins'.

For me, this has been the answer for YEARS.  Getting the damn ball LAST with time to do something.

Yep, exactly.  To the tune of a Super Bowl birth and barely losing that.

That's part of the issue.  SF's schedule is a joke compared to ours.  Their road to the top seed is immeasurably easier than ours.  We need to be vastly  better than SF to have any shot at it.

SF has been beating up on bad teams, true, but they are going to continue beating up on bad teams all year.  Eagles/Dallas are their only really difficult games of the season.  Bengals may shape up as a tough one by the time they play them.  Dec. 25 against Baltimore...Baltimore is usually on fumes at that point in the season.

My bad.  That is fixed.

If we're not the #1 seed, then the rest of seeding doesn't matter. We'd be favored on the road against any non-Dallas/SF NFC team.

3 sacks will do that for most LBs

So after 4 weeks what’s everyone’s top 5 in the nfl and who’s your SB prediction?

1. Niners - 4-0 and look better than us as a team, for now.

2. Eagles - 4-0 with a lot of growth potential still there.

3. Bills - 3-1 with only 55 points given up. Defense is legit and finally have a bit of a running game.

4. Chiefs - 3-1 and defending champs. Mahomes is still the best QB in the league.

5. Dolphins - 3-1 with a scary fast offense.

2 minutes ago, mattwill said:

Too bad they don't grade coverage spacing.

7 minutes ago, RLC said:

2 is a big difference over 5.  So, yeah, it does.  If Dallas wins the division... we go to Dallas and SF...

Imagine:

1 - SF
2 - DAL
3 - TB
4 - DET

5 - PHI
6 - fill in whomever
7 - fill in whomever.

Eagles path to the SB is on the road at Detroit, then on the road at SF, then on the road at DAL.

If you flip flop SF and DAL in the seeding... then its the same, only the order of facing DAL/SF changes.

But, getting the 2 seed means we host one of them.   That's a huge difference.   Winning the division is a massive priority.

Can anyone explain to me why Sean Desai has our DBs 8-9 yards back on 3rd and 4 and sometimes less?
