Buddy Ryan had his flaws and they were many but he nailed one aspect of coaching.

I only caught the last 10 minutes of Ohio State at Notre Dame but that was a hell of a finish.

Major points to the refs for having the integrity to call that intentional grounding instead of pretending the QB was following the spirit of the rule or some other BS.

The run on the last play was also a great call. Passing brings no extra benefit there since at 3 seconds you are not getting another pass play.

It was so obvious that they were going to run on that final play. I saw it coming from a mile away and I'm not even a coach. Notre Dame (and I'm a lifelong fan) should be embarrassed for not defending against it.

Notre Dame's biggest problem was converting back to back first downs on their final possession but getting them in one play each. I'm not saying you try to only get nine yards on first down, but you're actually better off getting nine yards. You have to think you'll get the final yard on one of your next two plays. You want to eat time off the clock, and the more plays you can run the better off you'll be. And then they threw the incomplete screen pass to stop the clock again.

The Irish deserved to lose. Ohio State was the better team and they made the plays when they had to. Kudos to them.

Played a gig tonight in the college town of Davidson, NC. Had a group at one table who were Ohio State fans and had two of their kids there in college. Then had a group at the bar who were all ND fans. That last quarter was so crazy. Yelling so loud they drained out our music.
